There is lots of space on the side the card because the PCI slots are arranged backwards, but anything longer than the Gigabyte card's PCB sticks inside the CPU heatsink. I actually noticed quite a few 5670 cards have longer PCBs which would also not work. The Sapphire card seems to be the same leng...

Thanks for the advice. My card is actually the second revision, which is slightly different: http://sig.fortepianos.com/5670.jpg The part that is problematic is the edge of the plastic cover at the right. The way the motherboard is arranged in this system, the fins of CPU heatsink are right where it...

Replacement HSF for Radeon 5670
I just received a Gigabyte Radeon 5670 card from Newegg to stick in a Dell system from work (Optiplex 980). Unfortunately, the stupid plastic cowling over the stock HSF sticks out over the edge of the card and gets stuck on the vanes of the CPU heatsink. I managed to wedge it in place practically by...

It sounds like my original selection should provide enough to experiment with and find a good combination. I will decide whether to go for the Thermalright heatsink/Nexus fan, but it would be about $30 extra with the fan controller, and I am trying to keep this as cheap as possible. How do you mount...

Thanks, that is really helpful! I will have to think about things today and decide what is best. I only have the one optical drive, so there is plenty of spare room to fit in an extra air intake. What sort of fan do you suggest for the Thermaltake heatsink, and why would the Noctuas not work? Does t...

Setup Check
I have an original P180 with DFI NF4 Ultra-D, ATI X800XL, Seasonic S12 550W, etc. The only non-stock part is the Zalman VF700 on the video card, which made a huge difference to the overall sound level when I installed it. Other than that, I have been running the original Tricool fans at low with the...

DFI and Seasonic not playing nicely together...
My brother's year-old system is having an issue that apparently appeared a few months ago. When the computer is turned off, it takes several hours before it will turn on again. There are two LEDs on the DFI motherboard (LED1 and LED6) that blink when attempting to power on. I gather this is related ...

I'm also getting a bit of vibration from the hard mounting with screws, so first I'm going to try remounting the fans with silicone grommets and cable ties. I'm sure that will help. Next time I order from NCIX, I'll add a couple of Nexus 120mm fans. I guess I will also have to find a way of volt-mod...

Okay, you asked for it :P http://sig.fortepianos.com/masterpiece.jpg Basically, there is no intake fan on top anymore, and I blocked off the hole. The tape on the back and removing the filter had no audible effect on the sound. It is loud with the fan running and the top intake unblocked, and even l...

I meant temperatures go up as soon as the side of the case is replaced. Depending on airflow setup, I've had this go either way... I blocked off the vents around the PSU, which seems to have slightly improved drive temperatures, but that's not related to this. I also blocked off the vents behind the...

Well, it's the standard tricool fan on the low setting. I don't have a lot of options available here, but I suppose I could try connecting it to one of the "fan only" connectors (I was under the impression it probably wouldn't start, though). The weird thing is that it's not the fan itself making al...

Okay, I removed the 38mm fan and replaced it with the smaller fan from the top intake, and that does an excellent job of cooling the hard drive, especially with the ducts taped up at the back. Unfortunately, there is rather a lot of noise coming out of the top rear exhaust now. The fan itself is not...

Any way I can get a photo of that setup? :) With the fan removed, the hard drive (single Seagate) is running at 46C, so it would probably be best to move the top fan down to the lower position. My CPU idle temperature is actually very slightly higher, but it only really seems to be affecting the har...

Well, I figured out how to remove the clip for the lower fan, but now the hard drive temperature is up to 45C from 38C. Is it possible to install one of the smaller tricool fans in the lower position? My Seasonic PSU doesn't seem to generate enough airflow to cool the drives. How about trying the up...

You know, I am thinking of just removing the lower fan completely. How does the fan holder unclip? I just stopped it, and I can't believe what a difference it made to the noise level. My hard drive is only a couple of degrees hotter, too. Now I can actually hear the shitty stop CPU HSF I have runnin...

P180 whining fan
I recently noticed that the lower fan on my P180 making a rather loud (by SPCR standards anyway) whining noise on the lowest power setting. I seem to remember noticing this sound in the past, but I always assumed it was something to do with the central air/heating in the house (and there is sometime...

I have another four of these drives in a computer downstairs, and they do vibrate to a certain extent. However, the P180 drive cage seems to be amplifying the vibration and transferring it to the rest of the case. I loosened the screws as much as possible, and nothing changed. I've been pretty sick ...

P180 hard drive vibrations
After getting my P180 nice and quiet with various fan speed controls, I've been noticing some SERIOUS vibrations from my hard drive. It's a Seagate 250GB SATA drive, set up in the lower bay with the silicone grommets. When I hold my hand to it, I can feel the vibrations, and they're resonating throu...

Unfortunately, I don't think I can take advantage of the VF700 for chipset cooling, because I'm going to have to put the video card in the second PCI-E slot (so the chipset will be behind it). I don't really want to bend the NB47J around the card just to fit it in the first PCI-E slot. Also, the VF7...

Okay, I've been doing some thinking. It's clear that a cheap passive solution isn't going to cut it, so that's out of the question. However, I am quite keen on the idea of using something like an NB47J with an 80mm fan running at low power. I don't want to run the fan at full power, and I'm not enti...

Replace my DFI chipset HSF!
Arghasgassdughuighsdg :x. I recently posted about the HSF on my CPU making a lot of noise. After performing extensive scientific analysis (i.e. opening the case and poking the fans), I've discovered the source of that bloody annoying whining! I know the chipset HSFs on DFI boards are pretty loud, bu...

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I might as well reply here. I put my system together in July, so I've never really heard it idling in a completely quiet environment (ceiling fan, open window, etc.). A64 HSF Advice
I recently put together a new system in an Antec P180 case. The P180 has definitely lived up to the marketing hype - it is EXTREMELY quiet. Quiet enough that the stock HSF on my A64 3700+ is driving me nuts! I opened the case for the first time since I built it and noticed that the CPU HSF is the on...
