This is somewhat OT, but the A7V333 does support lower voltages.Hifriday wrote:I briefly tested both a PicoPSU and a PW200M with an ASUS A7V333 and a XPM2600+ underclocked to 166x8 but overvolted to 1.6v (the mb didn't allow lower vcore), my experiences here.

Interesting stuff, but how much of that applies to Win98SE? None of it. Windows 9x's memory mangement is a completely different animal. Yeah, that's what I was implying :P. Felger said he was using Win98SE. And unfortunately: Disclaimer: The following applies to NT/2K/XP/2K3; I know very little abo...

Disabling the swap file's an option too, if you have enough RAM. Some things might not run without a swap file though (Quake2's the only one I remember outright refusing to run). No, no, no. Please, everyone, educate yourselves here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/99609816/m/8290...

OK, tell you what -- make a paypal donation to SPCR, at least $10 -- and include your address. I'll personally mail you a couple meters. I got 20m last time I was in a sew shop. Ooh, official MikeC-approved clothing elastic. That's a great way to get SPCR donations from all the folks who are too la...

The verdict: This electronic device does indeed hum. Audibly, in fact. But at min brightness it's only audible if my ear is less than about 6 inches from the back center. At max brightness, it's barely audible from 3. So I'm happy there. And it is insanely bright- brightness 0% vs 100% on the monit...

Well the more expensive graphics card is low-power and passively cooled, so you won't need the Zalman GPU cooler. But costs 50% more... The Ninja may be overkill for your CPU, but it depends on how close you want to get to silence. When you have a fanless chipset, a fanless GPU, and a potent...

Welcome to SPCR! (I've never had a chance to say that before :P) Some stuff to consider: Graphics card fans tend to be loud. I don't know about that one in particular, but you might want to get a passively cooled card if you can. A 330 or 350W power supply should be plenty, and would probably keep ...

One consideration of note-- the o-rings that broke in my P150 seem slightly different than those in my co-workers new case. Mine had a white powdery residue on them, his do not (and are shiny black.) We are not using the suspension in his case, so I can't do anything other than speculate that Antec...

You can do a search on "loud" or "hum" you know. Go to Edit->Find (on this page). Yes, I do know. Didn't know you could change the number of reviews per page though; that's helpful. But I still wouldn't expect more than 1 or 2 of the reviewers to have a quiet computer. For the record, 2 (I think) o...

By taking out the bands!JVM wrote:I know you're supposed to take out the plastic anchors, but how do you remove the plastic anchors?
Look on the inside of the anchors; there's a two hooks keeping each side of the band from slipping out.

Well I have to admit, I've never put a mouse up to my ear before. Both do have a quiet squeal. I couldn't find a description of the resistor fix mentioned in that FAQ, but my older, slightly dead mx500 is a lot quieter, so I'll just have to fix it, I guess. Edit: According to a friend who has the VX...

ViewSonic VX922 quiet?
Can anyone tell me whether the ViewSonic VX922 LCD makes any kind of noise? I'm looking to finally ditch my CRT, as it seems to have some bees trapped inside.
P.S. I wasn't sure where to post this, feel free to move it wherever

same experience, the NeoHE430 would not power on (fans just spin for a split second when I press the power button). I'd recommend undervolting the TriCool to 5v or 7v. Just keep in mind it won't start on low at 5v (and maybe medium too, depending on the fan). Also, I've heard of people putting carpet/foam against the wall behind the computer to dampen the sound a bit. No idea how effective this is though. The on...

Show me one that has a good chance of being quiet -- our definition of quiet w/o umpteen mods. My SmartPower 2.0 350W is all-but-silent, though its peak efficiency is a little lower than the NeoHE I think. I don't doubt that the fan would ramp up too soon in a hot system, but the rear fan's never e...

Well that sticky by MikeC does say that the divisions into rails is mostly made-up... So that would make it 3 A total on the 12 V rail, and it's pretty safe to assume that any computer which powers the CPU from the 12 V is going to pull 36 W total. Although someone with a undervolted mobile can be ...

Well, my understanding is that they fixed the faults, while the minimum 1A on 12V rails is a design feature. http://www.antec.com/specs/NeoHE430_spe.html lists 1A "Min. Load" on each of the three 12V rails. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=28430 says "ATX12V v2.2 compliant; backwar...
