Try RMClock for software throttling. It achieves both multiplier and VID adjustments based on demand amongst several other controls. Thanks for that! As far as I can see RMClock does exactly what I did through Thermal Analysis Tool. And allows me to control intel speed step as well. Seems like a gr...

Windows vista throttles down the cpu by default. Windows XP does this by default when you select "minimal power usage" (or something like that) in the power configuration in the control panel. This works when you have an Intel c2d processor, This features is called EIST (Enhanced Intel Speed Step)....

Thermal Throttling as a way to control CPU speed

Hey everyone Playing around with the intel thermal analysis tool it it dawned to me that I might use the 'on demand throttle' feature to control my cpu frequency. This feature allows you to throttle each core indiviually by 12.5 % increments. The feature seems to have been designed to 'simulate' the...

Now intel is so large that it's competing against itself. In turn, it can't allow Atom to become too powerful that it would eat out the Core market, or make the Core too efficient that it would eat the Atom market. Intel may be competing against itself but I can't see how it's relevant here. The at...

Reading Anands review I got this idea that could be interesting for laptops, or silent systems with laptop chipsets: Why don't solder one of these onto the mobo complimenting a 'normal' processor? That way when you were doing normal things like surfing and checking mail and so on the C2D could be in...

I think you could remove one of the front fans, air will still find it`s way in. And to encourage some more airflow at the rear, you could remove a couple of pci brackets. This should help cool the vga. As for the disk vibrations, I also used foam and I wasn`t really pleased with the results. I end...

My Lian-Li S80 with custom foam suspension

I've had this system for about one and a half year but it's only now I've managed to control the 'aluminum hum' of my Lian-Li case which puts the system between 'silent' and 'very quiet'. This is about my first foray into the DIY world, and (loigically) the first time I post about such a thing so be...

Re: Advice for noob on new components

I'd like to futureproof a bit even though I know that can be difficult nowadays, but I'm a student so I don't get to upgrade much. If your reason not for upgrading is financial I'd advice you to go a bit cheaper instead. Going cheap now and upgrading later will be overall less expensive. So, if you...

I don't know if it's me, but from I gather, at least from Anandtech the idea of the drive should be that the spindle speed varies between 5400 and 7200 rpm, depending on load, quite like intel's Speedstep varies the processsor frequency. They were wrong, misled by WD PR statements. They never verif...

Our 750 GB sample is 5,400 RPM. Storage Review's 1 TB sample was 5,400 RPM. WD's literature lists the possible speed range as 5,400~7,200 RPM, but we have yet to hear reports of any models above 5,400 RPM. I don't know if it's me, but from I gather, at least from Anandtech the idea of the drive sho...

Hmm, I know this may be a little late but I think you ought to reconsider your particular choice of C2D-model. I'd go for either a 6300, a 6600 or a 4300 if you intend to over clock. The 6300 is basically the same cpu and only with a little less clock-speed, I'd save the money. If you want something...

Unless you have a very big monitor I'd consider saving some on the GFX. A 8800 gtx is not the easiest card to cool (an aftermarked cooler like the zalman cf-900 is probably a must) and it pulls a lot of power from the power supply which makes that louder as well. You'd save quite a bit settling for ...

Tested with TAT as well and got 67 degrees (64 on core 1, for some reason it's always 1-3 degrees lower). Optimal temp for my conroe?

I guess this might have been asked before, but anyways... I run my e6600 system with a 7900 GT in a Lian Li S80 . CPU is cooled by a Scythe Mine and GPU by a VF900. I control fans using speedfan and am fairly satisfied - the case I have obviously doesn't have an optimal airflow and since my hdd (p12...

Other method of fan-control than Speedfan?

I have recently build my new C2D-system and I'm very happy about it (see my sig), noisewise as well. On my normal underwolted setting I can run the system at satisfyingly low temperatures with the fans set much lower in speedfan (50-75 % depending on my mood). On the contrary my intuition would say that placing ALL hot components in the same airflow path, which is as straight as possible (which by the way seems to be what intel tried when designing BTX), would be by far the most efficient way of cooling a computer. Efficient how? In terms of noise, energ...

Isolating hot components from each other - is there a point?

I have for some time wondered about the different cooling ‘philosophies’ that seem to be circulating. Mainly whether or not to fear having all hot components ‘share’ the same airflow, or isolate them into different airflow areas. I have also heard people voice opinions against the BTX airflo...

For aesthetical reasons I’ve fallen in love with the Lian-Li S80. For reference you can see it at the lian-li website: http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/Middle_Tower/Classical_Silent/M_C_S_PC-S80.htm I realize it might be problematic. The airflow concept of this case is very wierd: as far as ...
