Re: Seasonic G- or X-series?
The main thing as mentioned is the hybrid fan control on the X-series. G-series fan should always be running. Also the X-series using a sanyo denki fan over whatever fan the g-series has. There are probably some minor component/topology differences in the psus as well, but those are not material dif...

Supposedly Scythe us was to come alive in august, but looks like it's delayed. I hope by the end of september at least, I like having scythe as an option for cooling anytime I'm making a new build.

Re: PSU for 36+ hdd server
Running that many drives, I'd rather error on the side of caution with a beefy psu. I think both of your choices are perfect, it's all preference at this point. I think both have a fanless mode as well by my recollection.

Re: Advice needed on components for Lian Li PC-Q08 Haswell b
I personally got an Antec Truepower New 550 as a warranty replacement for an older antec psu which I'm using in the case. It's a 150mm semi-modular, which works pretty well. Cabling is a pain, but it was doable including hooking up 4 HDD, 1 SSD, and 1 optical. The one big recommendation when buildin...

New Mid Tower Case NZXT H230
This case looks really interesting. I'm going to be curious how it comes with the Fractal R4 and similar mid tower cases - The price seems right too since it retails for $69 and I bet there will be deals for $60 and less. Also it seems like it will have better airflow than the H2 considering the air...

Re: Gaming desktop build for my daughter
Look like a good build, I don't see any major changes needed. You might want to consider getting this seasonic psu for a lot cheaper(on sale for $59 after rebate currently), it does not have a fanless mode, but it should still be pretty quiet - SeaSonic SSR-650RM. Also I honestly would not consider ...

Re: Advice needed on components for Lian Li PC-Q08 Haswell b
I have a PC-Q08 I use as a 4 hd nas server. Definitely the psu would be more than enough, as mentioned modular is preferable to reduce the number of cables because it can be a pain to route cables in a small case like this. I personally have a ton of cables that I tried to hide in creative ways, one...

I think you completely misunderstood my post. I'm talking about max read speed on a drive. Nero drivespeed was the tool that let you set this. I don't care about write speed at all.

Looking for Optical Drive Speed Utilities
I used to use nero drivespeed to control the speed of my cd/dvd drives to keep them quiet when used. However I don't know if there's a good alternative for this on blu ray drives. I just picked up a couple blu ray drives recently and they are pretty loud during blu ray playback. I suspect setting a ...

I'd agree with everyone else, if you can wait get a haswell i3 when it comes out in september. Otherwise I'd possibly suggest getting a 4670t, which is a 45w quad core haswell.

Looking for Silent Heatsink for ISK300-65
I'm finally looking to replace the stock intel cooler in this case since it's by far the biggest noise maker within the htpc. It's using a Core i3-2100 and I'm just looking for a near silent cooler. Sadly since scythe coolers are almost impossible to find, I'm having some trouble finding a reasonabl...

Re: Seasonic G360W gold for $60 - Review & Giveaway!
This is totally a perfect psu for any budget build I do for people. Can't beat getting a high efficiency seasonic device for $60 or less. I'm definitely gonna be interested in seeing the pricing for the G450 as a modular device is popular as well.

Re: Suggestions on i3 2100T MiniITX build
It's not that they're conservative (not if you keep inn mind that the GPU is on board anyway). It's that the slower CPUs get the same rating as the faster ones in the same family. So the 2100 which is a good bit slower than some dual-cores is rated well over its actual consumption. Not so in the ca...

Re: Suggestions on i3 2100T MiniITX build
I'm running a Core I3 2100 non-t on the ISK300-65. Works perfectly fine even at full prime95 + furmark. I don't even pass 60w in that test config. I find it highly doubtful you'll have any issues with the 2100t. Zero stability issues.

I don't know reputation. Almost every single ssd consumer class has had firmware bugs. Intel has had 2 major ones. Indilinx has had them, Sandforce has had a ton of them. It's just teething issues with new tech that's also budget.

Re: i3 2100 web server PSU
The antec might be like 76% at 30w. The 30W figure was AC. This is SPCR. You know, the site with the measurements. So read first and pontificate later. The plantinum-rated Kingwin scored 77%, yeah. But the old $100 "high-efficiency" Antec scored 67% at 60W (not 30!)... so I don't expect the Antec y...

Re: i3 2100 web server PSU
Actually I've always seen reviews that show pico's aren't that efficient. Jonnyguru's is one example of this testing. If you check the review, depending on the power brick, you could get anywhere from like 77-83% efficiency. That's certainly not that good. The only advantage is that pico's are low p...

If it was like a $20-30 premium over Lian Li, it's possible this OrigenAE case is worthwhile. But Lian Li is already a high end luxury case maker. How can you make a luxury case that's somehow 2-3 times better than an extremely high quality case already? I don't believe it for a second. And I always...

May i point you to: http://www.origenae.co.kr/en/htpc_m10.htm Tschöö :) Soooooo overpriced!! £330 here from a reputable shop! Consider the Wesena ITX7 for £109. Admittedly without PSU (and thankfully without dreadful VFD display), but for £221 price difference I don't consider this a problem Wow, t...

Re: Asrock H67M-ITX/HT as HTPC board?
Asrock has the cir also. For both the HT and non-HT versions. Only the HT includes the remote and the wifi card though. I'd suspect the intel can't be much more power miserly. 22w idle is pretty awesome in itself. I don't think I'm quite done with my build yet, very likely I'm going to swap the heat...

Re: Mobo without video ports
You didn't specify the connectors of your displays. If your 30" display does not have Displayport you need an aktive Displayport-to-Dual-Link-DVI connector. It has to be dual-link, otherwise 1920x1200 is the maximum resolution. This connector is expensive, at least 100$ so it might still be cheaper...

I was curious if anyone outside of the us has gotten the non-deluxe asus h67 itx board? I see it listed on asian and european sites, but sadly not the us. Re: Atom VS Pentium 4 - IT IS ON!
Not sure what this is really about beyond the fact that Atom is slow in single threaded apps, especially ones that are slower with in order architectures. We've known this since they came out. Atom should improve once they go to out of order and also make some ipc improvements. Of course for any non...

Re: What size picoPSU for my new HTPC?
Gotta agree, a 90w should be plenty. I'm getting away with a 65w in the isk300 right now with my Core i3-2100 system, seems like it'll be fine since the only time it's even gotten close was doing a full prime95 + furmark test, which is never going to be realistic load on my system.
