I'd agree that most forums people only usually report the bad, and not the good. And I agree all manufacturers have bunk drives. However, newegg reviews are a bit different, typically more people report the good than the bad. The f1 has a higher than usual problem report for newegg. I contribute thi...

Hmm, seems like several people are experiencing bad drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16822152102 And still no 320/640gb in site... Not looking good for the F1 boys and girls. Guess I will need to move on to a WD GP drive instead. Sigh. I'll give Samsung another month...

The hdd manufcturers really seem to have big trouble getting the smaller models out. WD5000aacs is also to be found nowhere , although they said, it was shipping. Maybe the profit is not big enough yet with smaller models, lets hope they'll improve their production process soon. I'm guessing they a...

Thanks for the suggestions. I originally had a p3 600Mhz, but it was painful to use (as a desktop, lame encoder, downloading), just too darn slow, I don't think I can go back to that. As far as possibly replacing the graphics card, I identified the 7300gs as a possible good replacement candidate (it...

to replace my system drive!

When is Samsung going to release those?!?

And the wait continues...

My kill-a-watt arrived and it shows my system draws ~112W @ idle. OUCH. This is on a linux fc4 system with only a few small services running (slimserver, samba, etc). Going to have to track down where that juice is going, I'd really like to get it down to 60w, but that seems almost impossible coming...

Thanks for the tips, think I'll just try and get by with what I have for two more years or so. Still, can't wait to find out my real wattage #'s with a meter. Immediate steps I'm going to take: Update my OS - I'd expect newer OS to have more power saving features. In particular, I'm not 100% sure th...

I've got an antec sp-350 350 watt supply. Any clue
what the efficiency is? Probably not good I'm guessing.

This came stock in my Sonata II, and was already
RMA'd once for complete failure. Worth replacing?

I ordered a kill-a-watt from newegg (only $16!) earlier today to see what sort of power I'm drawing. I guess I'll let that be a gauge whether or not to upgrade. Say >80W=upgrade, <60W=keep what I got. 60-80W=replace the 6600gt with as cheap a pci card I can find. My system runs a little hot in the s...

Sweet, Newegg has the F1s!!! Now I just need
to wait a little longer for the Raid versions of
the WD GP and Samsung F1 (and benchmarks) and
decide between those two for the Raid 5 NAS I want
to build.

Makes me wonder when the enterprise version
of the F1 will be available, the hE103uj. Looks like
hD103uj will be available first. Wonder what the
differences will be? Longer MTBF?

Thanks for the link to Tom's Hardware article. This must mean we'll see those F1's any day now out in the wild. Hopefully newegg will have them soon... Looks like it will be either the WD GP Raid edition (for it's much lower power consumption and 5 year warranty), or the F1 (for it's better performa...

Is this true that Samsung only carries a 1 year warranty now? I can't find this info on their website anywhere? For the US consumer product page, there is a flash program where you enter in your model #. I tried a T series drive and it says only 1 year warranty. There is no blanket warranty like in...

I'm already gritting my teeth thinking about talking to Samsung about the 2004C. Its manufacture date is 6.2005. When I bought the drive it carried a 3 year warranty but now lists as 12 months on Samsung's site (another reason I went with Seagate this time, 12 months? Are you kidding?) Is this true...

Sonata II ACAG: Do you use it?

Just finished building a Sonata II AMD64 system. I found that the Advanced Chassis Air Guide did NOT fit well over my CPU, so I did not install it. The VGA fan mount did not position well over my VGA card either for that matter. I was wondering who out there is actually using that thing? Seems like ...

Sweet, so underclocking a 6600gt may be the way to go for most of my applications. Any ideas how much power/heat you can save underclocking the 6600gt to the minimum stable clock speed? The performance charts I've seen only show overclocking #'s. The 6600 vanilla is still on the table, but I can't f...

I'm running linux so using the v-tuner might not work. I will have dual boot with win2k, but I'm not sure if the adjustments made with v-tuner would stay in effect after re-booting

Thanks for the link. Gosh, my searches didn't find the sticky in the VGA forum on power dissipation on the 6600gt, and there are the numbers as plain as day! So, sounds like ~19W idle current for just the card. Hmm, kinda high but possibly tolerable, depending on the rest of the system current needs...
