Re: Replacing Sonata Elite
I'm in the same situation. Perhaps you should mention your system specs cuz you'll have different cooling needs depending on your components. My Problems are as follows. FT02, it's nice and all but no thought has been put into those hard drive cages. There is no space between them. So if I shove in ...

Re: Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Mid-Tower Case
I'm told the front door isn't magnetic and from many forum posts, I've read the doors are hard to open and the clips that hold the door in place is fragile and break easily. Did you experience this with your sample? Also, did you sample have loose side panels? Are the 550d side panels better than th...

Re: AAM/APM for Seagate Barracuda 3T (ST3000DM001) 3-platter
The manufacturers will deny that it does but from all the RMAs that ppl are making on the green drives, I feel it does affect the life of the unit. I mean they specify that the unit can last 300,000 head parks but in a couple months, the head parks get into the millions. Surely, something is wrong t...

Re: Antec P183 - Warning about cheap plastic tabs.
He was talking about the front fan grill/door, not the front panel. This is interesting because the front fan grill is already pretty open on a P183. I'm not sure why you need to cut it to be any more open. The P182, on the other hand, is a different story. Could you not have called Antec for a warr...

Re: Antec 3700BQE still effective?
I had this case in 2006. It was noisier and does not cool as well as the P150/Solo that replaced it. Not to mention, it looks like crap as well. I would suggest getting the Fractal R3 or Corsair 550d if you want more silence. That being said, looks like you are running onboard video and ssds. So you...

Re: Is there a problem with head parks on WD Green HDDs?
I was unable to disable head parking with the WD30EZRS WD Green 3TB using WDIDLE3 1.0.5. Basically, using the wdidle3 /d switch and then running wdidle3 /r shows that the feature is disabled, but it had 0 effect. The LLC count went from 0 - 77 in 8 hours when the hard drive was not yet formatted and...

Re: AAM/APM for Seagate Barracuda 3T (ST3000DM001) 3-platter
Thanks for this post. Was really deciding between this Seagate and the cheaper WD Green 3TB because Seagate seems to have better reviews. The head parking nonsense was the deal breaker for me.. at least with the WD, I can lengthen the time or disable it.

Looks like it still uses those crappy power/reset buttons. Ruins what is otherwise a good case. After switching to Silverstone, I have seen the light.

So, after having this WD 640 Green running non-stop for the past 11 months (8214 hours according to the SMART reading), if I'm reading the SMART report correctly, it has only parked the heads (15HEX = 21DEC) 21 times. Is that correct, or am I reading something wrong? Wow! Either the head parking is...

My WD20EADS Experience
I recently decided to purchase a WD20EADS despite the LCC problem. It was either that or the Samsung F2 (Seagate = poor reviews). Given my luck with Samsung HDDs, I was really only left with one choice. After reading pages upon pages of threads on the LCC issue, it occurred to me that the issue was ...

I hope SPCR reviews the RV02 or FT02 soon and directly compare it to the RV01. I'm praying that my RV01 don't fall behind too much. I'm a bit worried to see how bittech rated the rv02's cooling. Maybe their cables were cluttered right on top of the fans. Hell maybe they sat the sucker on a furry rug...

I will look into that EcoGreen, however I haven't been having much luck with Samsung drives. It will be run on a Thermaltake BlacX dock.. so more than half the drive will be naked to open air. Low temp 3.5 HDD 1 to 1.5 TB drive
Hi, Any of you know if there is a 3.5" hard drive greater than 1 TB that does not heat up too much in open air? For example, I have my Samsung F1 in a BlacX dock. In around half an hour (ok.. maybe I exaggerate), the drive would be burning hot. Are slow spinning 1.5TB WD Greens cool in open air? Are...

Not sure where you got that number, but the FT02 will be about 61.6cm deep. Why to stop to only one dimension if you know also the rest of them? Sorry, the prototype case had dimensions of: 212mm (W) x 497mm (H) x 616mm (D) This may change slightly (a couple of millimeters) in the production versio...

You should ask Antec to ship you the new Solo clothing elastic bands. There's no charge anyway. You can also take MikeC's advice and go to a fabric store to get clothing elastic. We've put more than 70 F1 1TB drives in service the last year, with a grand total of ONE failed drive, which was DOA. So its safe to say that the 1TB variant is pretty good. However, the track record with the 750GB drives are not that good, with a substantially higher failure rate. I suspect proble...

P182 PSU fan orientation
Hi,
Which way is more optimal (temperature wise) for mounting a psu inside a P182? Fan facing upwards or downwards? Is there a dust filter for the psu intake if one decides to have it face downwards? Dust is a pretty big concern in my room.
Thanks,
James
