The (lack) of need for high wattage PSUs

I found it astonishing that a power hungry system running flat out was only drawing 180 watts as the SPCR test system did. Talking to my brother about this, he brought up an observation. He mentioned that the test systems were all hooked up to a regulated source of power. He wonders what affect that...

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll try and get XP sooner rather than later. But maybe I'll try and come up under ME first just to see what happens - an experiment - it'll only kill 30 minutes or so if it fails. I'll get back with the results.
