Re: Need help finding Low Profile CPU Cooler (Mini-ITX build

Wow, that is a great idea, I didn't think that pre-built extention with a smaller connector existed. I'll definately be getting one like you linked . I also found via this forum, thanks to Abula's post that Scythe is releasing a smaller low profile cpu cooler called the Kodati. I'll be looking forwa...

Need help finding Low Profile CPU Cooler (Mini-ITX build)

Hello guys, I've recently built a new NAS box. Instead of buying an all-in-one Synology or QNAP, I decided to build my own box. I've been happily running this new toy for a week now, but the stock Intel HSF is driving me crazy, it's way too noisy. I have turned on the ASUS fan control in the BIOS an...

Re: Mini Box HTPC

Thanks for the info Mike. The fan is already being slowed down at 600-700rpm by the ASUS Q-fan control in the BIOS. I do not know how I could make it run slower than that. But in the end, I'll probably just buy another Nexus 120mm like I have been using in all my other build. They're just hard to fi...

Re: My Untangle router!

A very nice build but why do you need to build your own router? What is wrong with buying a standard off the shelf router and saving a lot of money and electricity? Well as CA_Steve mentionned, it is a lot more flexible. Untangle has an built-in Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Phishing protection, Anti-S...

My Untangle router!

I built last summer a small mini-ITX system using the Antec ISK 110 case to replace my old D-Link 604 router. Untangle doesn't require much power, I could have put in a Pentium or Celeron CPU in it, but I wasn't able to find the low power SKU's, so I opted for a i3-3220T (35W). I opted for an mSATA ...

Hahaha, well, everybody knows how the P150 looks like. I havn't taken any exterior pictures because it's no different than a stock P150 from the exterior. :P I don't agree with you about the dust. I can't barely see the dust on my P150, I see it only if I touch the top of it of pass a swiffer over i...

UPDATE May 28th, 2014: I have updated the gear listed and added a couple of shots of the exterior now that I have a Lian-Li 3-bay 5.25" 120mm fan. I've also added pictures of my whole setup with the white peripherals. -------- I got this Antec P150 back in 2006 to "upgrade" from a P180 SPCR Black Li...

Re: Rackmount case w/12+HDD bays, silenceable?

Wow, the import restriction is really bad. If I couldn't import computer parts from the US or the UK, I would be in big trouble, a lots of cilencing gear is only available in Europe or in the US. Even if SPCR is in Canada, here the quiet computing market is still very young. People here want to pay ...

Re: Rackmount case w/12+HDD bays, silenceable?

So Xyvotha, what solution did you end up with? Are you still looking 8 months later? With 12 HDDs, vibration, resonance and heat would be your biggest concerns. I would have just got an Antec Twelve Hundred, used dampening maperials for both side panels & top and bottom case. I would have cutted the...

Re: I give you the ANTEC SOLO II

I built a system for a friend with this case a couple of months ago. Actually, I simply cloned my own PC, but in a black chassis (I'm one of the lucky few still got a P150). He was amazed by how quiet my computer was and how powerful, even overclocked, it was still silent. I find the case a GREAT ev...

Re: DAW - Sandy Bridge i7 2600K - in a new Antec P-150!

Actually the P280 and the R3 are derivate of P180. Back in 2005, I was one of the lucky to get my hands on a P180 Black SPCR Limited Edition. I traded off this cse for the P150 in 2008, because cable management was a pain in the 3 different chamber of the P180. It was also very complicated to instal...

Re: DAW - Sandy Bridge i7 2600K - in a new Antec P-150!

OP posted this almost a year ago. P280 and R3 weren't out. As for me, I built my system in Frebruary 2008, and I do not wish to upgrade, the system works fine and is silent enough to my standard. In the end, it really is a perception of the noise level you can tolerate. My computer is actually quite...

I actually stumbled upon your post while googling for a good way to install SSD in an P150, since I do have the same case you have. Got mine back in 2008, even then it was rare and discontinued, I'd say you're a lucky bast**d! :P C...

This fees apply because on the third year, Gigabyte does not include labor i...

Hi unparagoned, First of all, Welcome to SPCR! For the motherboard and power supply cable lenght, there souldn't be any problem. But I would recommend an ASUS board instead of a Gigabyte one. welcome to spcr :) frankly, i would get a Core 2 Duo E6600 and overclock it. if you want a gaming machine, at the moment, go nvidia, not ATi. the 8800gts is more likely the best deal. since you're not interested in SLI, I would recommend getting a non sli board like th ASUS P5B / P5B-E or P5B-Plus p...

I havn't read the whole post, but I saw quickly your partition size. Trust me, 15GB for Windows XP isn't enough. I'm one of those who find the 7200.10 320GB pretty noisy. Temperature is good, the drive is always around 35C, but damn it is noisy!!! I can hear it in front of my Raptor and two WD2500KS all together in my P180.

If you'd ask me, I would definatly go back and get a WD3200KS instead!

hi hinz,

There's a topic in the forum, where people says that the WD5000AAKS is actually noisier than it previous version, the WD5000KS.

We'll see if SilentPCReview will grab one AAKS and compare both, but for the moment, it seems speculation only.

I have the Seagate 7200.10, and this drive is everything except silent, so do not get this drive.

I own a Raptor 150GB and 2 WD2500KS, and all those 3 drivers together are quiter than the freaking seagate. I would definatly get a wd3200ks if i had the chance to switch.
