Hey... I edited my original post, here's a link from Adobe that outlines what a gfx card does these days... EDIT/// Duh, what Steve CA already pointed out... http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404898.html Yeah, I know my machine is a bit of a beast, but my wife uses an iMac with integrated gfx, and hand...

I use the CS4 suite every day, lots of Pshop (large 1 gig PShop files are common). I use the stock card that came with my Mac Pro Dual Quad Core Xeon, which is a lowly ATI Radeon HD 2600 256MB, no issues. The only real time that 3D performance is needed is for screen redraw, and this new "feature" c...

If you have a car audio store in your town, go there and buy some dampening mat. I've been heavy into competition car audio since the early 90's, far longer than quiet cases, and with my car system having 4 10" subs being fed 1k watts, there's a lot of vibration to deal with. I applied mass dampenin...

I'm one of the pook bastards with a noisy Nforce fan...
anyone actually tried this one out? is it actually quiet?
Don't feel like spending $14 on a fan that'll be as noisy as the one I already deal with.

Using an Antec P-180 Foxconn Nforce 4 Pro mobo Athlon fx-53 @ 2.7 ghz, Zalman 7700 CU cooler EVGA 7800 GTX KO edition I wanted to mess around with ducting; mainly, separating the heat from the CPU from the Nforce/GPU heat. You've seen pics of p180's with zalman coolers, so you know how the CPU is pr...

If you have a car audio store in your area, go and buy a sheet of vibration deadener. That would be around $10-20, and would do a good job of adding mass to the resonant panels.

Yeah, I'm okay with my stock cooler also... have an EVGA 7800GTX KO Edition (the one swith the card encased in metal). All my noise comes from a crappy NForce4 H/F that I haven't replaced with a passive heatsink yet. The only reason I'd go for an aftermarket cooler would be if it got my temps notice...

I agree with snowman... I've been heavy into car audio much longer than I have PC tweaking, and making lightweight resonant material more "massive" is a huge key in the car audio world to stop rattles. etc, as well as squeeze as much volume out of the system as possible. Like another post said, all ...

For what it's worth, I have to say that my EVGA 7800 GTX KO edition is pretty damn quiet for the amount of performance it gives... my rig may not be as quiet as some of the tweakers on this forum (you know who you are)... but my comp is about as quiet as my Mac G5 2gHz dually, and that's good enough...

Thanks for the input... I *think* it may be an issue with the Nforce drivers, since after a crash/restart, the computer would start "searching for array"... making me think that an issue was the SATA connectors being faulty, etc. But then I'd shut down the PC, then turn off the power supply, unplug ...

Hey, all... Using a Foxconn socket 940 Opteron SLI board (with an FX-53). Well, those little 40 mm suckers are damn noisy. My EVGA 7800 GTX KO ACS³ is actually pretty damn quiet... the NForce4Pro heatsink fans are what make all of the noise for me... And the KO is fast as hell, but runs cooler than the "lower end" EVGA 7800 (can you call such an expensive card "lower end?"). Temp maxes at 65c after playing an hour or so...

Does Arctic Silver make any difference?

...Compared to the "stock" thermal paste that came with my Zalman 7000 Cu cooler...

Just curious if replaceing the paste on the CPU and mobo fans will make any difference in heat transfer, resulting in better cooling.

Using an Athlon socket 940 FX-53, Nforce 4 Pro-based mobo.

Thanks...

Cool, then have at it! Yeah, you can make the 3M spray "tacky" by letting both surfaces to be bonded dry completely, then join them; but know that even if you can pull the surfaces apart after you've stuck them together, that the spay will be a hassle to remove from the case surface if you ever want...

Using a FoxConn NFPIK8AA-8EKRS (socket 940 Nforce4PRo SLI board) with an OCZ Powerstream. Had to route the 4 pin power straight up from the PSU, but there's slack. 24 pin cable is fine with no issues.
