Here's a link for a supposedly new technology that reduces the heat produced by power supplies:
http://weblog.infoworld.com/sustainable ... owers.html
If this is actually true and trickled down to consumer level power supplies, this would be exciting news, IMO.

Recommended External Enclosures?
I know people have posted on this before, but everything I've searched for has come up with older information or specific applications. I'm looking for a quiet enclosure to connect to my iMac. I'm simply trying to add more storage space for my videos and other random things. I'd like something that ...

How do you suppose all the air that this mother of all fans will blow into the case will exit? Perhaps through the rear fan hole, among others? I agree with you, but I think a duct would still help. Otherwise, airflow might pass around the heatsink due to decreased resistance in that pathway. With ...

Great review. I still wager that my solution beats all others when it comes to cooling high W GPU's but I have to admit that it is not the most practical or economical to set up. BTW, for comparison's sake, the surface area of the Zerotherm HS is given as 4,404cm2. The Zalman 9500 is 3,698cm2; the Zalman 7700 is 3,268cm2. I am sure the Ninja is bigger, tho it's not specified -- probably >5,000cm2. The Ninja is 11cm sq, so each lamella cannot have more than 121 sq cm. There ...

Is it just me or does that heatsink seem like it would be pretty difficult to get a Ninja on there? I know I had difficulty putting my Ninja on and all I had were RAM sticks and other (much smaller) items. With the bulk of those heatsinks in the picture, seems like it would be practically impossible.

In your experiement, is there any chance that the fan is speeding up when the restriction is introduced? I just got a 17' powerbook and I am really new to owning laptops. The advice everybody is giving is very useful, which is simply tailoring to what you need/want. Another company that produces excellent quality bags is MacCase (www.mac-case.com) that designs it's bags specifically for Macs. It's a b...

PSU Channel to the extreme?
I was reading another thread about which fan configuration (number in vs. number out, etc.) when I thought of this: if a PSU channel is useful in keeping the PSU cool and preventing it from ramping up, why not provide individual channels to each heat producing component and have the channels connect...

Re: Build-a-Case
I sort of get what you mean. You could either have it intaking air from the case, or have it seperate thermally from the rest of the case (If your intake is from the outside or the inside, depending on which side the fan is on). The only problem with this is that it uses up a lot of space, or it go...

Re: Build-a-Case
PSU in the front? To the side? Give me your ideas. When you said this, I thought of something a bit odd, but interesting. Take a PSU with a bottom intake/fan and mount that sideways. By this, I mean that the PSU is mounted on the side, with the intake fan exposed to the side of the case (and open a...

I would still suggest to check the BIOS. First, make sure the drive is recognized there. Second, make sure it is set to Enabled, or Auto, and not something like Disabled. Can't access Samsung HD
I recently bought the Samsung Spinpoint that's on the recommended list (SP0802N), in the hopes of replacing my noisy Maxtor. At first I set it up as a slave (removing all the jumpers as I found, I believe, on the Samsung website). When I tried accessing the hard drive in windows explorer, I couldn't...
