hmm, changing the fan isnt a bad idea but it does seem like a bit of effort. although i like to think of myself as a bit of a handy man with computers, i don't like making modifications that cant be easily reversed. is there any other possible way to reduce bearing noise? like some how giving it a d...

[Aging] Fans

Hey all, Ive recently noticed that my PC isnt as quiet as it used to be; and its not just my addiction to silencing either as other people have said that it seems louder. Ive determined that the noise is coming from my zalman 7700AlCu cpu cooler. Ive been using this cooler since i first built my sys...

well, i just received my 8800GT and immediately put on the S1 (so no comparison with stock heatsink from me). Comments I used the ramsinks that came with the cooler and they stuck on fine. i guess so long as you put some pressure on them, and mind not to touch them until the thermal tape has cured, ...

ah true, i guess its probably closer to ~25db. in the SPCR review of the 7700alcu it was measured at 22db at 5v, so with the years of wear and tear its probably put on a few db's. the 7700 is pretty much all i can hear now, but with a feint undertone of the disk drives. i think i have taken this pc ...

so, i bit the bullet an got a VX450. its a bloody quiet unit! now the loudest things in my computer are the zalman 7700 cpu cooler and my hard drives. yay!
thanks for the advise everyone

-btw, according to SPCR reviews, my rig now runs at 22db @ 1m :)

ah, fair enough then mate. the zalman PSU is probably your best bet then. as for the gfx cooler, you dont have to run the 8800 passive with the accelero S1. what most people seem to be doing is strapping a slow 120mm fan to it in order to provide that cooling 'safety net'. and besides, isnt it alway...

looks like youve got most of it sorted out. just a few queries though... why a zalman ZM460? you would be better off with a corsair VX450 or VX550, or a seasonic S12 550. also, id suggest swapping out the accelero X1 for an accelero S1. oh, and you probably dont need all those case fans. just stick ...

well i just had a look at a PSU calculator that i found recommended on this site (http://web.aanet.com.au/SnooP/psucalc.php). putting in my specs (but using an 8800GTX instead of the GT because it is not an option to choose), it yeilds the following recommendation: Max sustained total power consumpt...

its a winchester core. im certain that 350w would handle it fine, but im concerned about it only being able to pump 16A. additionally, it only has a single 12V rail. i think i read somewhere that nvidia recommends a PSU with 24A on the 12V rail. i mean we all know that they over estimate to cover th...

I honestly wish people would not buy the Geforce 8800 GT until the price gouging ends this card is suppose be retailing for $200.00 US but stores are selling it at $300.00 CA. Even normally the cheapest places in Toronto to buy computer parts are gouging. It not such good deal anymore. :( you think...

ah, the accelero S1 eh? so its enough to cool the 8800GT? that makes a nice alternative to the VF1000 and the HR03 considering its about half the price.

Ultrachrome, do you need the ram heatsinks like with the other 8800 cards, or is the vf1000 enough? I use the ram sinks that came with the heatsink. The RHS88 part for the 8800 series doesn't work with the GT. excellent, so the VF1000 comes with all the ram sinks required? or did you have to get a ...

wow, sounds like a great PSU. definitely seems like a good alternative for the ol' seasonic S12, and being a corsair it should be easier to find in more countries that dont have much in the way of seasonic.

its also excellent to see the little VF700 perform so well, its low price and easy of instalation make it a great choise for mid range cards
