The IceQ just uses the Arctic Cooling Silencer, which is also available in an nVidia version that you can install yourself on just about any nVidia video card. The Zalman cooler is nice, too. ATI doesn't sell a product that can compete with the 7800 series yet. If you are going to drop $400ish for a...

Or you could get 3dMark05 Pro for 19.95$ as i did, and loop one or several tests. Theres no pauses that way and its a pretty good stress test with everything maxed out :) Of course i have the benefit of two screens, i can have ATITool and SmartGuardian running on the other screen so i can look at t...

RTHDRIBL is really handy as a video stress tester, you can control the amount of stress you are putting on the card by the size of the window and the level of multisamples used; when the FPS is around 30, you are beating up your card pretty good. I usually let it run for an hour if I'm testing a car...

Needless to say, this technique does not lend itself to repeatable, reliable data, but it is the best that could be done given that there was no way of logging the temperatures during the benchmark. Let me propose something better. Run RTHDRIBL in a window of fixed size, let it run for 60 minutes, ...

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but if I was trying to make a lightweight system that was quiet, I'd look at an Antec Super Lanboy instead of the P160. With a good quiet PSU and some quiet 120mm fans, it should fit the bill pretty well. Not as quiet as steel, of course, but then again if weight...

I ran a program called RTHDRIBL in a window. That's the window you see with the balls floating around in it.

Other notes: I removed the fan filters so the airflow would be less restricted. I also taped over the grill that would have been the intake for the VGA duct, which yielded a nice little noise savings. 3M duct tape is just the right width. 8) Also forgot to add that the Memorex DVD-RW is loud as HELL...

Other, Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W.

In the P180 with the 120mm fan blowing on it at low speed, it runs very quietly. In a normal case, I'd be worried about it having to spin both 80mm fans at high speed, but that hasn't happened in the P180 even under load.

You might want to look into the Smartpower 2.0 500W for the P180. It has the detachable cables of the Neopower, and a push-pull fan setup that makes more sense in the P180's lower chamber than a big bottom fan does, at least in theory anyway. And with the 120mm fan blowing right on it, it should sta...

First crack at P180 system (pics galore)

About a year ago, I put together my first PC, using an Antec Super Lanboy case. I was pretty happy with the results, but the case wasn’t quite up to snuff for my uses. Since I didn’t move the PC around much, the low weight of the Super Lanboy really didn’t do anything for me, and it struck me as bei...

I just got the 500 W version of this PSU. It seems to be designed for the P180, in the sense that with the 120mm lower chamber fan blowing on it set on "low," it is always very quiet in my system. Not totally silent, but very respectable. The flipside of that is, I wouldn't recommend it for a case t...

I have one question though. The metal plate that covers the external 3.5"-slot should be bent off, right? Is there any easy way to do that? EDIT: Any ideas what to do with the HDD2 connector? Is there anything you can use for? Is it even possible, without huge mods, to use one led for each drive on...

Cutting to the chase, if I am thinking correctly in context of the P180, a straight airflow design would be vastly superior to the "newer" 120mm fan psu designs of a fan facing either down towards the bottom of the case, or up towards the upper chamber. If I am not correct, please let me know. The ...
