Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

Well I finally got the replacement PSU and put it all together last night. Unfortunately I cannot make any reasonable judgement as to how quiet the system is because everything is being drowned out by a rather noisy stock HSF! Will need to replace with something better pretty soon. SSD wise - I have...

Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

Sounds like you're building an extremely similar system to me! I also got my psu on scans one day deal (just before the VAT rise too...win!) and got confirmation from them today that they're sending a replacement. Why aren't you going SSD? I can tell you more once I have my rig setup, but from prett...

Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

Unfortunately my new build has been haulted as I got given a faulty PSU (went Antec truepower 650w in the end) but I can testament to the fact that the silverstone fans that come with the Silverstone case are pretty damm quiet. I went for the Silverstone Grandia GD04 in the end - better fascia and i...

Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

To be honest I dont really game at the moment (last game I played for more than a few hours was the original halo!) but I'll probably want to get back into it sooner or later. I suppose seeing as the Gigabyte mobo above has integrated graphics, I can always use that/stick my old Msi 7600gs in until ...

Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

Wow I cannot believe I overlooked the motherboard size.....how stupid do I feel! The Gigabyte mobo you suggested seems perfect, thanks :) Cpu - I suppose I could save myself £20 and go for something like This instead Neither of those PSUs you listed seem to be modular - surely in a SFF build a modul...

New sub £500 build advice needed

Hi all I need some advice on a new SFF build. Having received a rather nice monitor for christmas I'm going to finally get round to upgrading my shuttle St20G5 running an Athlon 3000 S939; its been a while!!! I use my computer mainly for watching movies, surfing, and very occasional gaming. Am hopin...

are u sure there's room to fit a zalman Northbridge??? I thought they were taller than ur usual heatsink, and there cant be more than 1cm headroom between my current Nb and the drive bays as for the psu - i think you're right it needs replacing (apparently its around 32Dba at the moment). what about...

Silencing a ST20G5

Hey all I finally got round to doing some stuff to my new ST20G5 (kindly provided by the insurance company after my very quiet SN45G was dropped by my sister). So far all ive done is: cut out the back grill restricting airflow from the ICE system Replaced an X1300pro with a fanless 7600GS added an e...

as the people above said, go for dorothy's fans
as you can probably read from this thread, i was gona go with the silentx fans, and im soo glad i didnt; the noise from the panaflows is virtually negligable, and the pitch of whatever you can hear is far lower, and less annoying than other fans.

just an update on what ive done to the shuttle. ive added a few other mods, like a Uv acrylic blue window at the top of the case, window with chicken mesh at the side, but more importantly some cable sleeving and i finally got round to geting a vga cooler. WORD OF WARNING FOR ANYONE WITH A PEAK RADE...

im looking for something similar to go on my 9600 pro in my shuttle sn45G, so far the only coolers ive found that can fit into sff's are passive crappy ones. the zalman VF700-Cu looks the best bet imo, in silent mode its 18.5 Dba, which isnt bad, and because of its shape, it only needs a relatively ...

well the nmb-mat fan arrived from dorothy today, thanx for the suggestion aleksi. the difference between it and the stock sunon fan is immediately noticable; whilst before you could hear both cpu and vga fans, now i can only hear the vga fan clearly. hopefully something like this will kill of the vg...

ok youve convinced me to go the 80mm way, although ive decided to go for a silenX 80mm 14Dba 28 cfm fan, as it seems the best cfm/dba ratio i can find, and most people seem to be happy with them. That plus the zalman fanmate you recomended should make my ICE pretty quiet Ive had a good look around a...

but surely a few dba extra noise because of the adaptor is worth it for the masses of extra airflow you get from a 120? its like double the airflow of similar 80mm fans!

Ok so ive had a good look around, and ive come up with this combination: Zalman fanmate, with akaska amber series ultra quiet 120mm fan (18dba 44.8cfm) Akasa 80mm to 120mm UV Fan Adaptor to fit the 120mm fan on the back of my shuttle Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler This will probably also give me...

looks like il be buying from dorothy then! she does sell a 40mm fan, but it only pushes 5cfm, which is small even for a 40mm, i was wondering if this would be enough to cool the psu?? ive had a quick read of that shuttle zen, il try putting the fan on the outside later on tonight see what happens, b...

lol thanx for the replies, and the welcome! yer ive had a look at the dorothybradbury site, and was originally gona get one from there, but the specs of the noiseblocker are far better, is the clicking and whining of the noiseblockers common or is it just the odd one??? about the zalman - i was real...
