Re: Trouble with fans on accelero twin turbo ii
Oh well I ended up removing the fans from the accelero twin turbo ii and strapping 2 120mm scythe slipstream 800rpm fans onto it instead. I then undervolted the fans to 7v, so they should run with 470rpm. The result? furmark maxes out at just velow 80 degrees. And I have a little bit of trouble hear...

Trouble with fans on accelero twin turbo ii
I just got a new computer, including a gigabyte reference 560 ti. The stock cooler + fans were ok, but not really sufficiently quiet. So I got an accelero twin turbo ii and attached instead. I put the fan connected into the header on the card, but the fans did not move when I powered on the machine,...

Best cheap mobo for E5200 oc'ing?
I'm putting together a system consisting of these items: E5200 ninja slk3000b case seasonic s12-430 2x2gb ddr2 800MHz sapphire hd4850 with accelero s1 rev2 pci sound card So now I just need a motherboard. I've been looking at gigabyte p31-ds3l, and I'm still considering it, but I don't know if there...

Need feedback on planned system
I'm buying an upgrade soon, and I'm starting to get close. The machine should be capable of gaming with a 1680x1050 monitor at decent framerates, not necessarily highest quality. Almost certain of these new parts: e5200 2x2gb 800MHz ram sapphire hd4850 accelero s1 rev2 Keeping these parts from my ol...

Ok, sounds like that eVGA card might be the way to go. Does anyone know what the lower limit of the stock fan's RPM is? I'd plan to underclock its 2d mode, and see how low I could get the fan at low loads. How does this sound? Will I be able to get the noise down to almost spcr-acceptable? Only idle...

Best bet if performance equivalent of gtx 260 or HD4870 is r
Heys, I'm in a dilemma. I want good gaming performance, but the noise level must be at most a relatively slow 120mm fan. I'm reading about the semi-passive cooling attempts of 4870s and gtx 260s, and the trouble with especially VRMs isn't encouraging. Has anyone made it really work? Are there partic...

I think the fan on the gtx 260 will be the main noise offender in that system, so you might want to have a plan for that. It might be tricky though, as the (afaik) best silent option is to use thermalright hr-03 gtx, which I'm not even sure is really on the market yet. Also, you could consider putti...

My advice: disconnect all non-essential components, disable fans and so on, preferably until only one noise source remains. Fans can be blocked, preferably by something soft, for instance unused zip-ties. Turn on the system for a short while and note how bad that component is noise-wise. Repeat for ...

380W seasonic will be fine. And I will definetely recommend getting a Seasonic, the power supply isn't a good place to save money. The solo is one of the best cases you could get. Personally I have an Antec SLK3000B, which has the same tricool fan that comes with the solo, and I haven't bothered to ...

I just bought a samsung HD401LJ 400gb T133, based on the opinion that it's among the 400gb+ disks with the nicest idle noise. I've also put it in a scythe quiet drive enclosure. It's pretty quiet, though it's still more noisy than my s12-430 and case fans. It's also put in the bottom back of my case...

Seagates are noisy, especially 7200.10. Spcr's recommendation is the latest WD drives, SE16. Alternatively, Samsung's T133-series is also good. Yeah I'd advice you to use cpu cooling, the ninja automatically comes to mind. An E6400 could easily be cooled passively. You'll easily be able to get the n...

Ah I forgot to mention that I've put the SQD in the bottom of the case on spongy material, so the suspension thing is taken care of. The noise profile subjectively seems to be composed mainly of medium to high frequency, which would then bode well for a possible improvement with acoustipack. I've tr...

Underclock 2D-mode GeForce8800GTS?
I'm wondering if it's possible to underclock the 2D mode of the 8800GTS. The main thing bothering me about the card is the large idle power draw, does anyone know what its default 2D clock frequency is and if it's possible to lower it significantly? And what about undervolting, anyone seen something...

Re: Advice on my build
but through my reading I have found they conduct more noise in most cases. I'm sure the P180 is a major exception to that. The concensus is that it's the best case you can get for the purpose of silence using air cooling. You seem very ambitious with the level of silence you want to achieve, but I ...

klankymen: The E6400 doesn't have double cache of the E6300, it has 2mb as well. The E6600 is the first one with 4mb. As far as I'm informed, the best buys are E6300 and E6600 because of the huge overclockability of the c2ds, and because the different EXXXX come from the same "wafers" (is that the ...

eVGA 256-P2-N584-AR Geforce 7900GT = $225 7900GT coolers are generally noisy. Also, 7900GTO cards aren't alot more expensive and perform better, and they have a very quiet cooler according to some people on SPCR. Otherwise you could stick with the 7900GT and get an aftermarket cooler like zalman vf...

7800? As far as I know, the 7900GTO cooler is better than any 7800 cooler. Also I've heard it's inaudible at 25%, only time it's going higher than that will be while gaming, and then I'll have game music anyway. Anyway, if I find the 7900GTO noisy, I'm leaning towards getting a Thermalright HR-03 an...
