Just removed everything from the case and had a good look at the cooler. Turns out that the retention thingy of the CPU itself was skewed which in turn let the cooler only touch about 10% of the CPU heat spreader. It's a miracle the system had been working at all :). Now it's running idle at 42 degr...

Core i7 920 idle at 80oC lowers to 40oC when on its side

I just built myself a nice Core i7 920D running at 2.8GHz (slight automatic overclock), but it runs very hot idle (more than 80oC) when I've got my P180 right side up. Now when I put the case on it's side, the temperature lowers to 45oC. The funny fact is that under load, the temperature doesn't rea...

After reading up one the asus forums, there seems to be a way to get these temps down by installing a front intake fan. Though I still think that ~47 degrees isn't too hot. I can always try putting the CPu fan in the CHA_1 header. judging from the manual, that header get's more juice when the Mobo t...

In both the A8N-SLI and the A8N32-SLI the mobo reading comes directly from the northbridge. The heatpipe system on the 32 transfers the heat from the southbridge via the northbridge cooler and all the way up to the radiator. This makes the 32 even hotter than the original a8nsli. But, they both util...

I did find a lot on the p180 and the door. But never found that it was temperature related. It would've been so easy to make the door made of two materials and put it together so that there was room for this kind of expansion and contraction. Ohh well, I guess I'll have to turn up the heat :)

P180, front door and cold

My PC is in a room that isn't heated at night (saves me some energy), but when I come into the room in the morning the door of the p180 (revised version) is bent outwards. When the room temperature get's above 18 degrees the door is in it's normal shape again. I guess it's caused by the fact that th...

I was thinking of buying the Ninja+Coolermaster 120mm (rated at 22db, 42.7 cfm, 1220 rpm). i was reading the instructions for the ninja but i'm a little confused. with this board are you saying i do -not- need to remove the backplate? just unscrew the rention fra...

i dont know if the A8N32 is the same layout as the A8N SLI Premium (looks like it) but when you say the RAM issue, can you take RAM in and out, (even awkwardly) with the Ninja installed? Yeah. You have access to all the banks. There's one but though, you'll have to remove the fan first, but that tu...

Might I recommend that you take the Nexus off the Ninja and use it to replace the 38mm fan in the bottom of the case? You'll probably find that the San Diego still runs quite acceptably cool without the Nexus (unless you plan to overclock) as long as you have just one Tricool running nearby. Yes, t...

Have you experiment with "the arm" and vga duct? :o Seems that if it can be rotated near rear ventilation holes it may get fresh air(little get heated with PSU exhaust maybe)and the negative pressure would tunnel air through the arm to exhausts. Apple has been known to have problems with overheated laptop processors. It's one of the reasons the went to Intel for their new platform. I'd just return the whole thing and buy a Dell. Or you could wait a while and buy a new IntelMacTop. My gf bought a Dell Inspirion 9300. Truely a magnificent mac...

Wouldn't it be much easier to add another 120mm fan to the back/top of the p180 case? It might give a little bit more noise, but a watercooling unit must be cooled aswell and usually has a cooler of its own, might aswell add a bit of additional airflow to the whole system.

The fact that it is more than 15% more efficient is pretty nice. It would probably make it easier to use passive CPU cooling as. (Normally the CPU cooler is used to cool the area around the CPU aswell)
