HDD silence - achieved

I have finally reached hard drive silence perfect. For years I have had my HDD (3 year old Western Digital 500gb) in a box as such http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/hdd/005/sqd1000_detail.html I had it sat on the floor of my case - this killed most of the noise but I still had vibration - I lived wi...

Thanks for that - interesting idea with the cardboard we work in CMs here -so i will try to convert your inch measurements  Interesting you suggest not to cover the ENTIRE enclosure with a block of foam (underneath) - but rather small areas Do you mean 4 little squares in each corner or one blo...

Material to put HDD Enclosure onto?

I have a scythe quiet box. It vibrates a little. If I put it onto the fllor of my metal case the case vibrates and makes noise. I cannot mount it - so what is the best type of material to ptu the enclosure on? I am guessing FOAM? The harder or softer stuff? Is there any risk of fire with foam? The p...

Dumb question - what does the shielding do? protect the PC parts?

what if you then have half the case open on the side anyway? plus i;ve seen custom made cases made out of wood and stuff - are they potentially dangerous in any way?

Plastic Cases?

We all know how metal cases can cause vibration noises to osudn loud This could be solved by using plastic casing right? Are there any plastic cases otu at the moment? I have a Sonata 2 - without the side cover on its fairly quiet but when the side cover is on it makes loud humming osunds - any ideas?

I am suspicious that setting AAM to quietest is causing me problems! Since I got my WD 500GB SATA and put on AAM my PC would randomly freeze - I put this down to Windows Indexing service - which I switched off and it has helped a lot - but I wonder if it was AAM being on that caused the slowdowns in...

AAM - Performance

I ahve a WD 5000 AAKS which was bloody noisy with its seeks inside s Scythe Quiet box.

Using AAM on 128 it has killed all of the noise - however i notice the nosie pretty much died at a much higher setting but i took it down to 128 for good measure

what sort of loss in performance will i see?

effects of overheating

Hi I have a Samsung 400gb SATA HDD. What are the possible side effects of overheating from being in the scythe silent box? Current temp is 41degres but it is not screwed on - I took it out before and it felt pretty hot - I suppose 45degrees - 50degrees is teh max it woudl hit. I ask because last nig...

I have an Orange Nexus fan at the lowest setting - am I going crazy or do they make VERY faint random ticking sounds? The fan can spin freely so I am imagining its something inside...? Is this feasible or is it just plain crazy?

Right, I have an Antect sonata 2 case. Going from an ABIT AV8 (Athlon 64 cpu) to an Asrock ContoeeSata2 board (Core 2 Duo) - the design of the Asrock has meant my wires are all over the palce and it has made it very hard to get my Scythe SIlent drive down on the floor with any decent sort of padding...

I have some foam - tough and soft

I find that the vibrations carry through from the Scythe to the case (and causes a lot more nosie - so if the Sycthe goes into the case it will have to be suspended or something.

Antec Phantom 350 - Temps?

Hi I have had an Antec Phantom 350 fanless PSU for a whiel now. I have upgraded my set up and most importantly I have gotten rid of 1 fan in my PC - the CPU fan (went for a fanless Ninja) - I now only have a case fan running at very low speeds (a Nexus orange thingy!) I am now running a Core2Duo E64...

Abit AV8 and no CPU fan?

I currently have an ABIT AV8 with an Athlon 64 and a Zalman HS with a Nexus (Orange) fan with a low speed setting - if I set the speed too low the system will beep 9I have muted it) - currently spinning at around 560-600 rpm and getting a CPU temp of 38. I am gonna install a Sythe Ninja soon - how w...

How hot should a HDD go?

I have a Zalman 7700 AlCu for the CPU with a slow Nexus on it. That works pretty much silently. The fanless PSU I was looking at is the Antec Phantom - which is available in the UK I have quite a small case - Antec Sonata 2 - i better make sure the PSU is easy to change first - but I am unsure if I ...
