I'll second the Gigabyte recommendation and add a rec. for the Asus P5K-VM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131187 Worth noting that the Asus P5E-VM HDMI should be available in the next few weeks: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=584&l4=0&model=1912&modelmenu=2

LOL Yeah I just sold an HR-03+ on Ebay, same reason. Thereis still a lot of speculation about what aftermarket coolers wil work on the 8800GT. I've seen a number of them confirmed on Xtremesystems but the HR-03 has not been confirmed there. I just got an 8800GT so I'm looking too. I'll let you know ...

Taking pre-orders for expected availability 11/26: http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/thermalright-hr-03-gt-vga-cooler.html The devil is in the details--haven't seen the vanilla HR-03 mounted on an 8800GT yet, but I did read a technical explanation from Thermalright that sounded convincing at the time :...

I would second both the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R recommendation ( although be careful--looks like Newegg got a bad batch recently) and the forthcoming Foxconn X38A, which may very well be better suited to your needs. Early reviews are positive. You will have the option of ddr2 or ddr3, and the option o...

As I post this my XPS is droning away quite audibly! Dell continues to offer XP as an option and Microsoft has extended XP sales through June '08. I intend to install Vista Home Premium on a new pc in Dec. So much depends on what apps. you use, but generally I think the momentum is beginning to shif...

Thanks for the very helpful post, Mike. Pulls things together into a useful authoritative note. I wasn't aware of the EMI risk that comes with cutting out the steel grills. I'm assuming this risk comes with cutting out the top and rear grills as well, right? Could you say anything more about this? I...

Excellent review, but so long after the release with so many forum members already reporting on this and so many other sites having reviewed it. Still helpful, but very late. Further, IFX-14 has already come and gone from the attention of many enthusiasts (and found wanting from an active cooling pe...

Thanks nzone. Further along in the hardforum thread linked above, armyoffoo is claiming 46C idle on an 8800GTX with a Yate Loon D12SL-12 zip-tied to a VF1000. Pics included but no load temps reported yet. Now it's a 3-slot solution, if this can be verified and duplicated by other users. My own progr...

I think it's the Asus motherboards that have this feature ("Q-Fan?") not the graphics cards. One has to use nvidia software to control fan speeds. This particular fan/heatsink is now on several Asus cards including an HD2600 and Asus claims up to 10C lower temps than stock cooling. It also looks ver...

i haven't installed it. My intent was to give solid confirmation of availability. I'm building an matx system, which means 4 pci slots. Soundcard has to go in 3rd slot, so I don't think the VF 1000 will get enough air to function well. I'm looking into external DACs so still might find a way to use ...
