Some have had success with suspending the entire cage sideways.
I had trouble with 2 drives.
First, it was difficult to suspend because of the weight.
Second, the noise wasn't reduced as much as with suspension in a 5.25" bay.
I ended up building a wood box to suspend 4 hdd's.

However, I would suggest the zip tie method. I use weatherseal foam instead of tubing.

Thermalright HR-03? That thing is a beast. It could work, but I doubt it'll run passively if he has trouble running a VF900 with active cooling. Putting a 92mm fan on a Thermalright HR-03 would be better than a VF900, but you'd be taking up 2 slots and strapping quite a bit of weight onto your grap...

You're right to be concerned about my HDD temps. With that SonexMini block in there the temps rose to about 52C under load! Without it the temps are at around 37C but I can hear the seek noises. I'll need to figure out how to suppress the seek noises while allowing more airflow to the HDDs. I'm not...

Q-fan reduces my Nexus from 1000rpm to 660rpm. Approximately 7-8 volts. Is that with the "Silent mode" setting? When i use Q-fan with my CPU-fan (stock fan@ Core 2 Duo E6300) and silent mode, I get about 600-800 rpm (don't remember exactly now) and an error message (warning?) when I boot. Something...

I have the Gigabyte 7800gt version. You can control the fan speed through a program called RivaTuner . It allows you to set percentages for 2D, low power 3d, and performance 3d (25-100%). The physical fan connection is 2 wires, no tach. There isn't a way to read fan speed on the 7800 & it looks the ...

Then you'll have to find the chip that reports fan speed, normally it's the first listed. There should be an option for fan divisor. It is normally set to 8, but if you set it to 16 it shou...

Pulse width modulation - Wiki I don't quite understand the scientific properties. I think it reduces fan speed by switching the voltage on and off quickly. A note on undervolting: Undervolting alone does not reduce the processing power of the cpu, only the voltage supplied to the cpu. I run a Athlon...
