Going fanless?

Just a quick straw-poll judgement, how workable are the current fanless psu units? - They dont seam to be progressing as fast as i though they would. - Seams fairly easy to me, stick a big heatsink assembly out the back of the psu unit, where tha fan would usally be, and bobs-you-uncal right? Ive so...

Yeah, it would be great, but i have no idea where to get any heatpipes from. - Bending them would be no problem, i have a mini pipe bender that would cope with the gauges of pipe involved. (i got i for gauge-pipes on our steam engine) - I have also though of using a pelter between the heatpipe and t...

I think the schooner has a good idea, with the exturnal fins, i deffonatly thing there millage in the idea, just the imlimentaion is a little poor.
- If you could get a bigger heatsink outside the case, that would be cool.

I'd recommend a fanless PSU for that setup - either the 300watt Silverstone or the Antec Phantom 350. Fanless would great, but other people have said there very unreliable and tend to overheat and blow? - have you run a simular system off a Fanless psu, did you have and problems with it, how long h...

Yeah, i've heard the maxtors are quite good now.

I have a 120gb DM+9, and its lot quieter then the whiny old 60gb DM+ D740X in this pc, and i guess it would be fine (the DM+9).
Although i'd still prefer the quietest, wouldnt we all!

My personal issues with the vertical drives are: 1. The small width usually only allows for 60mm fans which are loud no matter how much you slow them down. 2. They rarely allow for a good intake, severely limiting airflow. 3. The form factor usually only allows a proprietary PSU. If not, then a mic...
