Looks good so far. If you're not playing any games then the Gigabyte GV NX85T256H is fine. It will offload some of the decoding work from the CPU. If you want to be able to play some games, then the 8600GTS version might be an option for you. Gigabyte makes a passive 8600GTS and MSI as well (e.g. th...

Sounds great, I'll give it a go with the SI-128 and see how things turn out. Hopefully I'll get the stuff next week, I'll be back with a report when I put it all together.

Thanks!

Thanks for the good advice, it's highly appreciated! More RAM might be good since it's not too expensive to go to 2 gig. I have a hard time finding out exactly how tall the heatsink can be in this case. But like you say, ti seems I need to stay under the 120mm linit. You guys feel confindent that I ...

I'm gonna try and make the switch, so the rear case fan is controlled by CnQ, and move the S12 connector to another fan header.

For measuring temperatures (and RPM), check out Speedfan.
OK, so I guess I better remove the wire from the S12 on the mobo header and connect the rear case fan instead?

I wonder what the S12 connector is for then?

I'm just using the stock fan with the Ninja cooler. I haven't seen any numbers on its performance, so I don't know if I should replace it with a Papst or Nexus? The A8N32 seems to have 2 headers that are controlable. Currently the CPU fan is obviously connected to one of these, and I have the S12 co...

Maybe I should add that the CPU fan, the exhaust fan and the S12, is connected to the board. I'm a bit worried what headers to use for the exhaust and s12.

[P180] Cover holes

I recently put together a P180 system. I covered the holes around the PSU with tape, but now I'm wondering if I should also cover the exhaust below the 120mm fan too? I think this exhaust is used for the CPU og GFX exhaust 'system' which I also removed from the case along with the drive cage in the ...

[A8N32-SLI] Fans and fan headers

Recently I put together a new system (P180, S12, A8N32, 3800+ X2, Ninja, 7800GT, X-Fi), and now I'm thinking about fan control. Right now I'm using only one stock fan (rear exhaust) on low speed. The top fan is disabled and the fan in the lower compartment is removed (along with the drive cage in th...

I-Star Nitro AX sure looks like a nice case. I looked at the pictures and quickly read the review at modshop.com and it looks like an option.. I can't find this case in Denmark, however, so I guess it's not an option :-( The onboard RAID solution are all pretty decent in RAID 0 and RAID 1 scenarios,...

Hehe... Yeah the P180 is defiantely "famous" - tons and tons have been written about this case. I remember quite a lot of stuff being written even BEFORE it was released :) So, I agree with you that there's a lot of material on the P180 to keep me well occupied for a looong time. I'll try to find so...

Hmmm, a bit disappointing, I had hoped the SLK3000B could be a cheap acceptable option, but if it's not possible to keep cool and sufficiently quiet, then I guess I need to look elsewhere. The case wil contain at least 3 hard drives and 1 optocal drive, and I might expand with 1 or 2 hard drives lat...

Re: How much do you want to spend?

If you want to get really insane, you could always go for a Zalman TNN300 (but you'd spend around $700 just for the chassis!). No moving parts except the HDDs! OMG it's a monster (yes, you're right that's insane, hehe)! I think that's not exactly what I'm looking for - even though it's probably pro...

Wow looks pretty cool. Downside is that it uses 92mm fans for front intake but I'm not sure if this is really a problem. Seems to have lots of space for drives, which is good. Not sure if I can find it here in Denmark without a PSU. With a PSU it's quite expensive here - more expensive than the P180...

I'd definately go for a dual core socket 939, e.g. 3800+ X2. Don't go for the Intel, it uses too much power and therefore generates too much heat. Hence it's harder to keep silent. It seems plugins befit greatly from dual core: http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/002rack/ I think the Asus A8N32-SLI...

Server case - alternative to P180

I'm about to setup a home server and I'm looking for a case. The machine will be running 24/7, and will primarily be serving files, web pages and ripping/burning. I recently bought a P180 for my workstation and I'm extremely happy with it. So, I'm considering purchasing a 2nd case for my server, but...

Hmm... Seems it's not quite clear. One thing is the cable length, but I'm more worried about the capability to get reid of the heat. I'm thinking about covering the holes around the PSU, so of course I'm wondering if it matters which way I mount the PSU.

S12 upside down?

I have bought a Seasonic S12 600W and a P180. Now I'm wondering if I should mount the PSU regularly or upside down? I've tried to google this and been looking at the forums here, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this question.

I don't have any personal stake here (luckily I read this thread before going out to buy the P150) but it really surprises me to see how badly Antec as a company has treated paying customers. These new Antec PSU problems probably do not come as a surprise to anyone who has been following their trac...

Thanks! Just making sure I understand this...

If I use Asus Q-Fan, this is considered undervolting, correct?

I do not need Zalman Fanmate to undervolt, since I can use Q-fan or Speedfan, correct?

Thanks for all the input, I relly appreciate that!

OK, so threshold thermal control seems to be the way to go. But does Q-Fan provide this? Or do I need Speedfan to do this?

Also, stromgald, you talk about undervolting the fans. How do I do that? Do I need the Fanmate2 to do this?

Controlling fans

I got my mind set on a P180 and I'm wondering how to control the speed of the fans (both on the case and CPU). It seems there are several options: - Asus Q-Fan - Speedfan (software) - Zalman Fanmate2 - other? I guess the best way is to let the fan speeds rise and fall according to temperature level?...
