Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

This is a pretty stupid question but I've not seen the answer anywhere yet, possibly due to my limited attention span: Do these new motherboards have the same heatsink mounting holes as LGA1156 boards? I'm assuing yes due to the heatsink used in this test, but always better to ask then waste cash. A...

if you are looking for the quietest laptop drive that is a different question. I suppose I'm looking for the best price/capacity drive that is no louder then the setup I currently have (WD1600BEVS). I don't care if it's 2.5" or 3.5" I just don't want to make my computer any louder then it currently...

WD green - really quieter then WD blue?

Apologies for starting yet another thread about this drive, but just wanted to check before taking the plunge. Just had a look at the reviews for the wd green 1.5TB drive and the WD blue 500GB, and apparently the green measured in at 1dB lower. Is it really that quiet? I've currently got a 160GB WD ...

Is my seasonic too noisy?

Just finished off a new quiet pc, the only moving parts are a suspended laptop HDD which is essentailly silent aside from the very occcasional seek, two D12SL-12's at 7V which can be heard as a very slight whoosh, and a seasonic S12II-430. The seasonic is the loudest thing in the case and is clearly...

I know some of the gigabytes have serious DPC latency problems with later bios revisions, which makes low latency audio next to impossible, so I'd go with the abit.

Replacing PSU fans on old mac and compaq

Trying to get an old G3 and compaq down to reasonable noise levels, both only have one fan which is excessively noisy, both in the PSU Sadly neither is a standard ATX psu so i cant just drop in a quiet replacement. Both fans are 92mm and are pretty easy to replace, i'm just concerned that the SPC re...

I've just got one of these too and i know what you mean about the loud full speed fan. The hard disk is a bit on the whiney side too. I've not yet found a solution but it's definately possible - the dell utils let you test turning the fan on and off so it can be done from software, and theres a linu...

I have a thermalright V1 Ultra 2 Warnings 1) The stock fan is very noisy. Even at 50% speed it's audible over everything else (although only just) in my fairly quiet but not mega-silent system. 2 The stock fan is very tightly screwed on. I can't for the life of me get it loose, although i've been be...

Fujitsu Amilo V2045

Looking to buy a laptop for recording - This one fits my needs pretty much exactly in terms of features, but i'm wondering if anyone has one and can report back on the noise level? Pentium M so i'm hoping it will be fairly quiet, but the X300 graphics aren't the absolute worst on the planet so might...

Well i've just ordered one for a 9800 pro which is almost certainly overkill as it's costing me as much as i paid for the card, but i figure i can re-use it when i finally upgrade to something pci-e flavoured and its not all hat much more then the zalman etc.. passive jobs. Will let you know how i g...

Right, well if i'm doing my maths right a 24bit stereo wav file at 44100kHz is 258Kb/sec, so 34Mb/s should allow me to have over 100 on the go without any problems. That's a silly number really as even the most ridiculous project doesn't get that bloated. I'm not planning on doing any direct from di...

Ah didn't realise the drives were actually different in anything apart from the aesthetics. Perhaps the honeycomb does make a difference then, my re-flashed OEM 109 is definately quiet but you can still hear a noticable amount of noise when reading data. The initial spin-up is much louder as has alr...

My first S12 died within a day, I'm now on my second and experiencing spontanious shutdowns but am going to replace the (aging) motherboard before returning it to make sure it's definately the PSU. I'm not that enamoured with seasonic at the mo, especially considering how much those things cost..

It is fairly quiet yes, not as quiet as my liteon CD writer slowed down to 8x, but perhaps dvd drives spin faster, i'm no expert. It's not bad though, i can clearly hear it over my system but it's pretty unobtrusive noise provided you have the drive set to quiet. (it's deafening otherwise, so if you...

Booting from an external hard disk

Sorry if this has been covered, did a quick search and couldn't see anything. My old motherboard just died, and browsing through the manual of the one i've got to replace it, i just noticed there's an option to boot from a USB HDD Sounds like a good deal - If it works a 4m USB2 cable would leave the...
