Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565
Seeing as how the 565 was a BE, it should have made for some super easy overclocking... and the SB Core i3 is essentially not overclockable at all... I wonder how the X2 would have performed against the i3 after bumping up the multiplier. The X2 needs at least a 1GHz overclock to realistically comp...

Re: Intel Core i3-2100 vs. AMD Phenom II X2 565
Going by Anandtech's bench comparison, the i3 has arguably more throughput than the X4 810:

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
I appreciate the break down ... I'm running a Q6600 2.4Ghz system, I will upgrade when 5Ghz systems come out. I don't move until a doubling of tech has been made available. Arguably the 2600K is there now, especially with applications that can take advantage of 8 threads of processing, like video e...

A counterpoint to the lostcircuits findings is at http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/phenom-athlon-ii-x2_12.html#sect0 -- they obtained similar results as we did, and they were using an FX (no onboard video) board for AMD. So does hardware.fr: http://www.hardware.fr/articles/762-3/athlon-...

The E5300 should have no problems meeting your requirements. Its measured power consumption is very low.m1k30rz wrote: Would the E5300 be capable of this? or are there some lower heat Core2Duo's that are capable of HDTV?

Measurements of the QX9650 have it using around 70W under full load. If you can use passive cooling with a Prescott, a 45nm quad-core will be piece of cake by comparison.

What I am talking about is how the computer feels, how smooth it is running and how fast it responds when you start applications, surfing etc. Human perception is unreliable. Quantifiable measurements show Intel to be faster nearly across the board. Running one single application as fast as possibl...

Hello, I'm going to be building a workstation PC for my office. It will primarily be running computational tasks like commercial finite element software and scripts in MATLAB. I would like the computer to be computationally powerful and future-proof, and money isn't an object, within reason (i.e. n...

Anyway, I started the topic, because the C2D 6750 system would cost 100 Euro more than the X2 BE-2400 setup (X2 4800+ 65nm/65W being the same by the way). Given the BE-2400 would consume about the same power as the C2D and 4800+, I wanted to ask what else would I be missing for the buck? Is it like...
