I am also looking for a quiet low profile heatsink/fan for my HTPC. Is there anything more silent than the Scythe Big Shuriken ?

I didn't ignore it. I just chose to prove it.

Re: My Accelero S1 is making noise. Is it defective?

To test this put the stock cooler back on, then whilst stressing the card put your finger on the fan to stop it (you won't hurt it if it's only for a few seconds) and see if the hissing noise is still there. Nutball, I followed your recommendation and the hissing noise is still there. *** Yes, it's...

Re: My Accelero S1 is making noise. Is it defective?

Why would a passive cooler make any noise? There are no moving parts. Think about that for a moment. There are no moving parts, but there are moving fluids inside. Therefore I think it's reasonable to consider that a possible defect with the heatsink would explain the hissing noise. I could mount i...

Are you sure it's the S1 that makes the noise? Seems more likely it's the graphics card or maybe the motherboard or PSU, only you couldn't hear it with the stock fan running. If it's another component on the graphics card I will only find out if I use the same Accelero on another card. However, I a...

My Accelero S1 is making noise. Is it defective?

I've recently bought an Accelero S1 to replace the noisy fan on my Gigabyte Radeon 4670 card, located in a Sonata II case. Using the stock fan, the temperature was stabilizes at 97C on stress. Using Accelero S1 (fanless), the temperature stabilizes at 110C on stress. Besides the fact that the temper...

How on gods green earth are you going to fit a 120mm fan in a space only big enough for a 115mm HS? Shave 5mm off the fan shroud? Tower heatsinks are so ubiquitous today that my request may sound irrational! I expect to use a 120mm blowing top down, adding at most 25mm on the height of the he...

Best heatsink under 115mm tall for HTPC ?

I am upgrading an old HTPC to support HD recording and playback. The case is a SilverStone LC13, in which most of the modern heatsinks don't fit. I plan to purchase the following parts: • CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz • Motherboard: Foxconn A7GM-S 780G Micro ATX I don't intend to play any game...

Thank you hybrid2d4x4 and Neil!

You guys were right: it's the motherboard!

Using a metal paperclip, I noticed that the PSU started right away. Then I reconnected to the motherboard but it couldn't start right away, just later.

Thanks a lot for the tip!

Help: If I turn off my computer, I can't turn it back on.

My computer is on 24/7. Sometimes, when I I had to power it off, I noticed it failed to turn back on. However, I just had to push the power button again and it worked fine. But it got worse ... way worse. Now, if I turn it off, I have to wait more than an hour - with the power cable disconnected - t...

I don't understand exactly what you mean by "mobo base plate". I am quite fluent in English but I am not a native English speaker. Could you please elaborate on that ? I am trying to figure out the critical areas to proper damping in my desktop htpc case (SilverStone LC13). Here are some pictures of...

Samsung SP2504C or SP2004C or something else ?

I am in "desperate" need for two silent drives. Silence is very important but I just can't ignore performance either because one will be used as a system drive and the other for video capturing in a PVR. I need the drives to be at least 200GB. I could sacrifice a little and go for 160GB if it's cert...
