Re: Furmark: a good load generator?
I undervolted my 7870. Got it down to 1.03 V with Furmark. Passed Furmark many times but then noticed driver crashes in game. Ran Windows index experience and the driver would crash as well (at the same point) . Upped it to 1.07V. No issues after that. Conclusion. Furmark is a very poor test for sys...

Re: GPU Fan minimum speed
Well the fan sounds damaged. I don't accept things damaged from factory I have heard rumors that the gigabyte 7870 OC using afterburner can drop to 0% It does :) and it's a brilliant card for what you want. Credit goes to SPCR username:"Wanky" for finding this out. I merely confirmed that he didn't...

Re: 7850 vs. 7870
Cheers for the reply. I usually make my own fan profiles. . Be aware that the problem for us silencers it that most fans have a minimum speed. Bumping the fan to 0% may still run the fan at close 1000rpm + depending on the cooling solution. What would be great is if we could make a database of the ...

Re: 7850 vs. 7870
On a somewhat related note, it seems that some HD 77xx and 78xx boards are getting further price slashes - see here Those prices reflect current street prices anyway. As to what card to get I've gone through two 7870's now and rejected the first one because of acoustics First card HIS 7870 ICEQX OC...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?
CCC alone is not suitable for this card, the default fan profile stinks and the lowest fan speed you can use is 20%. Thanks for all your help. I think i will try to get a hold of the same card that you have as your solution appeals to me. update: Got the Gigabyte card. Works exactly as wanky said. ...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?
Thanks. I might have to sell my card and get the Gigabyte then !! Why did you need to undervolt/underclock it? At idle it shouldn't really matter (Since the card goes down to 300Mhz/825mV and since the fans turn on when not in idle it should be OK? Also if you prefer not to play with voltages can yo...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?
I have found it is just best to use afterburner and set up your own fan curve and get a card with chil controller so you can undervolt I am running a gigabyte 7870 OC with huge triple fan cooler on it, by default it has 40% idle fan which is ridiculous overkill and loud. with afterburner I turn the...

Re: Intel graphics
I've been looking at cards such as the AMD 7770 as an update to my htpc system. The 7770 is an excellent choice. It is a noteworthy card here because it's probably the highest end card that can be cooled passively with the right choice of cooler. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-...

Re: Enclosure vs. Suspension
Essentially I'm asking is it worth it? It depends on two factors. Firstly what drive is being silenced. The seek noises are more apparent in low vibration drives like the GP and the quiet drive is reasonable at reducing these kinds of noises. It doesn't do much for vibrational noises. Secondly if y...

I've been using this fix for about a year. My dell 2407WFP-HC makes noises between about 15 - 75. Outside this range the noise drops off significantly. I've put the brightness on 77 and adjusted the gamma/brightness accordingly. I've come to the same conclusion as everyone else. It's a slight trade ...

Re: MSI 4870 512 + S1 rev2 : passive cooling possible?
My pc is nearly noisefree except from the card and I don't have any spare 120mm fans to put on it. What do you think? 2nd question: can I put the Arctic S1 ramsinks on the VRM's too? Or do I make sure not to touch any other think (short circuit?). I wouldn't risk it. I'd just get another 120mm fan ...

Re: Stock fan HD3850 users - how quiet is yours?
Hi all Would really appreciate any comments. If it looks bad, I'll be looking to go down the passive HD3850/3870 9600GT route.... Max My setup is really quiet even by SPCR standards (I would assume). THe noise for the 3850 is the quietest ever for a stock cooler. It was still the loudest part of my...

Hi. Thanks for the response. I've tried putting the brightness up on the monitor and lowering it via my graphics card, but the picture hurts my eyes. They all hum IMHO, espcially bigger monitors. WD GP was also dissapointing. I was hoping for quiet seeks, but when the drive is installed in MX-1 it has louder seeks then my 150GB inside SQD. And I'm not exaggerating. The seeks inside MX-1 are nasty hollow. I already regret I didn't buy a Samsung, although I blame MX-1 more. I own a MX1, SQD, ...

You do not need any case cooling whatsoever with the 3850 and S1 combination. Normally I recommend at least a slow moving fan however in this case it's so far below the threshold that it's completely unnessary. I had the 3850 with reference cooler. It got to 90. I've been told it's safe up to 110. W...

Are you listening Antec? You kindly put the USB and front audio ports beside the door so why can't this be done with perhaps the most frequently accessed feature: the power button? I would practically never have to open the case door if it weren't for the hidden power button. It's is about the only...

I was under the impression that to get good results with any of the intel CPUs you should have a 1:1 FSB to RAM ratio, which means on the Q9450, 1333Mhz, hence DDR3? The 1:1 FSB to Ram ratio giving a performance boost is highly arguable.... however you are misinterpreting what people are saying any...

3850 + Accelero s1. Vastly better than the 36xx series You didn't mention what case you have so I'm assuming you have a full sized case like the p182 With the 48xx series coming out these are cheap. They have none of the disadvantages of previous generation "high" end cards (it's really more of a hi...

I installed the 500G version today. I'm disappointed with the seek noises.
