I paid $130 for a retail 60GB Agility. The cheapest I've seen OEM 80GB G2s is $225.

Re: Which is the most quiet of the fast (7200rpm) hard drive

I know the easy option is to get a quiet 5400rpm drive, but that is my last option. I want to see if I can possibly build a quiet setup with fast 7200rpm drives. Not my experience. The 1TB 5400rpm Caviar Green I got was the loudest drive I've had in a long time. Both my 7200rpm Samsung F3s are quie...

Re: Power usage of typical external enclosure

It'll be connected by esata, thus making this excess power avoidable in principle. There doesn't need to be any active electronics in a eSATA enclosure. Just a eSATA plug and a USB plug for power is all it needs. Both the power and data are just passed-through. There is even a card reader with eSAT...

According to an article at Anandtech, the AMD southbridges offer inferior SATA performance when compared with Intel's. This wasn't much of an issue with hard-disks, but with SSDs it's obvious. I don't believe there are many motherboards, if any, that have more than one PWM fan header. But some will have extra 3 pin headers that will use voltage to control the speed of non PWM fans/ My Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H has 2 PWM headers. Luckily both headers also support DC voltage control since I...

The H55/H57 differentiation is analogous to the previous Intel Southbridges ICHx/ICHxR where both had AHCI but the ICHxR additionally supported Intel Matrix RAID. No, before the ICH10 the non-R ICHs didn't have official Intel AHCI support. A few motherboards had unofficial AHCI mode for ICH9. It wa...

I broke down and bought the 60GB Agility from NewEgg when it was on sale (with rebate) for $130. I got one of those too, and it works quite well as a boot drive for Windows 7 Professional and my games and apps. It seems to be a good deal slower than the 120GB Agility, but still in the same ballpark...

You could do worse than a Radeon HD 5450. It won't have any problem driving 2 24" LCDs. A $20 Radeon HD 3450 or 4350 wouldn't either. You'll might want a HDMI to DVI-I adapter in addition depending on your 24" monitors. I think you can even run two monitors off integrated motherboard video as long a...

Re: whats the best athlon am2 ? with crossfire

That motherboard is nice, you wouldn't be getting anything better with another one. 1080p is not a challenge for video cards--the 5850 is mostly overkill at that resolution. The IGP is not switchable without removing the video card. You can run the IGP with a Radeon card to drive another monitor for...

Desktop LGA775 sucks power. Why not just get a CULV laptop? $400 gets you 5.5W TDP 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 GMA 4500MHD ICH10M which supports SATA multipliers up to 8GB of DDR2-800 (using somewhat expensive 4GB SODIMMs) Lower power use than Atom N270 netbooks. Foxconn makes a 2 phase VRM G31 motherboard if you are looking for the absolute lowest power LGA775 motherboard. I personally would recommend one of the Gigabyte G31 motherboards, but the G31M-ES2L does overvolts the memory by default, and you can only correct in Windows using their overclocking app...

This chip is only exciting for Apple and other OEMs will love these for the $50 or so they will pay for them. It is actually lower on the performance spectrum than the 4670 was when it was launched. It is more like the 3650/2600/etc. It deserves 64-bit memory bus. Even the 5770 is pretty low end, bu...

Wrong, the $19 active DP->VGA converter works. Clearly, you are wrong as you cannot get it to work properly. You are also wrong as you can't buy an active converter for $19. Eyefinity probably only works right now if you actually have 3 identical LCDs. Not just 3 displays that can run the same resolution. See my post about 5 posts up.
