Re: Warning to all SPCR members: do not buy the WD10EALX
Huh, I have two of them, and they are just as quiet as the 500AAKS they replaced. They are just used for storage though.

Hmmm... If internet access were bandwidth fee based, I might feel differently, but I see ads as a necissary evil, and would like it to stay that way. SPCR will always hold a special place in my heart, as for a very long time, quiet computing was not the norm. As it stands, most computer part compani...

HP LP2475w (new LG H-IPS panel) is what I have now, coming from a NEC 20WMGX2, and I can honestly say after searching for a quality display to match or beat the NEC for a reasonable price, I have found one. Got it from Amazon for $620, right now it's $580 w/free shipping... http://www.amazon.com/gp/...

I build lots of computers with consumer level drives, I have had more Samsung drives fail than WD by far. Since the introduction of FDBs in WD drives, I have had zero failures. As recently as January I have had 2 newer F1 Samsungs start clicking and hang during detection rendering the systems unboot...

Quiet is subjective. I just got a EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 model yesterday to replace my ailing 7900GTX. The fan at stock speed is certainly the most audible part of my system, which can be heard over my non-silenced hard drives which make a whooshing sound when running. I used the EVGA Precision Util...

All 260s use the same reference cooler, the fan settings may vary and sample variance may introduce noise, but I have not heard of any difference in performance (heat or sound) with different brands. But be aware, there are some bad samples out there, in which the cards run extremely hot, due to som...

As for MSI, the article you [vick1000] link to describes the MSI board with these words: "unfortunately it hits many epic fails ... we can only recommend you look elsewhere because there are currently better boards on the market". So MSI is definitely out (again, I don't like taking any chances). e...

That should not be a concern for the PSU maker. If HDD cables were hard to route, then it is the fault of CASE maker. I said nothing about it bieng anyone's fault, only it would be tough to squeeze it in to a P180. That is Antec's fault. YES... I dont go putting down products that I never used beca...

Enermax builds there own units. Good! But you seem to prefer single 12V rail units, or am I mistaken? Reading that article by JonnyGuru, he seems to like triple 12V rails. It doesn't matter to me, as long is it's of good quality and quiet, whil supplying the power I need. Single rail is just easier...

Regardless, you would have trouble squeezing that beast into a P180 or other tight case. And why would you make the ATX/motherboard cables modular? 25c ambient, what is that exactly? I think the build quality is suspect as well, from the caps used to the choice of not using a PCB for the modular co...

Well the comment is directed toward modular design, cables that are removable from the unit by means of connectors. They can (do) create resistance, the amount of power flowing through them, and the quality of the connectors is what matters. With large amounts of power, you would like less resistanc...

Good God!!!! That is one shoddy built unit. The noise is probably coming from those uninsulated torroid coils. You can coat them in liquid electrical tape if you can get to them. The missing cap looks like it might be bridging the 12v leads, which might give tham a little more noise/ ripple at load ...
