Actually my understanding is that it's proportional to the amount of data on the drive, not the size of the drive. My 8 hours was for only 185 GB of data. But an empty drive should be very fast. I could be wrong about this - when I bought my drive there was very little information around on this sub...

I posted my first experience with one of these drives here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=494893#494893 Having got over the initial alignment operation - which took longer than I had expected - my impressions of the drive a week later are good. It's imperceptibly quiet in oper...

I'm not sure if I am supposed to revive an old thread with some information which is slightly off-topic, but as this thread is one of the few places with discussion of the WD Advanced Format drives, I'll mention my recent experience with one of these drives. I needed a new drive to replace an existi...

I still can't control the fan speed via Speedfan, though. Deep embarrassment on my side: I had forgotten that PWM speed control normally requires a 4-wire fan connection, whereas the case fan header on my mb and the Noctua fan both use 3 wires. The CPU fan header on the mb is a 4-wire header so of ...

Felger Carbon, that's really interesting. I'm going away for a couple of days (a "management seminar") so can't contribute any more for a day or two - but I'm curious as to the fix you suggest. Soldering holds no terrors - in my early days I fixed my Osborne portable computer by replacing RAM chips ...

Another discovery: I connected the Noctua fan through a Zalman low-voltage lead like this: http://www.thecoolingemporium.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=47 Now the fan is turning at 827 RPM and Speedfan is giving an RPM readout. I guess the Zalman lead - which is just an inline resistor ...

Yes, I'm using the ULNA lead which should reduce the RPM to 600. In Speedfan the reading is always zero RPM, with all divisor settings. In the interests of science I just tried removing the ULNA lead and now Speedfan does give a reading - 1260 RPM, just as it should! Obviously the ULNA lead interfer...

Noctua fan speed not showing in Speedfan
I've got a Noctua NF-S12 1200 RPM fan hooked up to the mainboard case fan header on an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard. For some reason the fan speed isn't showing up in Speedfan 4.32. The CPU fan (Intel stock HSF) on the same mb sensor gives a good speed readout. I've played around with the "FAN1...

Hi McBanjo, Ive emailed dabs.com about RMA'ing it and they cant confirm that they'll test it against a P5W DH, im worried that the PSU will work fine with another mainboard and they'll charge me for the P+P and hassle. Im checking out RMA'ing it straight to Antec but there customer supports pretty ...

mcoleg, I know what you mean. When the Mini-ITX motherboards first appeared they seemed to be good value, but as the newer boards and cases have become steadily more expensive, it no longer seems like the best option unless size really is critical. I put my most recent Mini-ITX board into one of the...

Have you looked at the mini-itx.com site? On their shop page for cases (http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=3) they have a table of cases. In fact, I think the only one which takes a full-size optical drive is the Morex Venus 669. This doesn't take a brick power supply, but you could take out the PSU a...

Sorry about the delay in responding. Yes, as qviri says, the dimensions are HxWxD = 85x140x55 mm. I never found a proper replacement, so I bought a PicoPSU -120W version. It cost real money but I figured that I could re-use it later in another case. The original Chyang Fun MiniCube case only fits th...

Replacement PSU for Chyang Fun Minicube Mini-ITX case?
I've used this case for a home server since 2003, using a Via Epia Mini-ITX motherboard. The PSU fan failed in 2004 and I replaced it with a new third-party fan. Now the whole PSU has failed and I'm wondering how to replace it. The PSU is a completely non-standard shape and size, and apparently not ...

I see that this thread is still alive, so I'd just like to follow up my post of 3 April. I have to say, you guys must have the patience of saints. There is no way I could tolerate having to wait 4 months (!!!) to get a fixed PSU. Today, 3 April, I finally received a replacement NeoHE 430 - about a week after posting off the old one with its RMA number to Rotterdam (and just over 4 months from when I entered my first RMA request ticket on the Antec site). I appreciate the fact that AntecRep posted this information, but his post refers (apart from the warranty sticker part) only to the "Asus motherboard issue", and does not mention problems with other motherboards which may or may not be related. Actually, here's a followup question: Where is the intake of the SHA350? On the back or on the bottom of the PSU? I'd love to have a straight airflow PSU, because I already have sort of an intake duct set up for that. The back of the PSU is mostly grill. There is also a smaller rectangular grill on...

My thoughts: - don't buy a NeoHE unless you are prepared for the possibility that you might have to return it - be aware that the NeoHE doesn't work properly with quite a few motherboards, and sometimes the problems don't show up immediately - be aware that getting an RMA from Antec is not quick or ...

I don't really see how the PSU could just suddenly decide that it needs more power draw to be able to start up after 2 months of usage, though. There are many variables at work here - the amount of current needed by the PSU to push it over a threshold, and the amount of current drawn by several dif...

I agree that the NeoHE will work in some configurations. Mine failed to work in the system I'd originally planned it for, but is now working OK in a second system. However, why expose yourself to this uncertainty? There are other PSUs of equivalent quality which work in all configurations. So unless...
