Re: Radeon 6850 Undervolting Survey
Since other people got high idle speed with their EAH6850 too, I decided to go with Saphire 6850 as previously suggested. So now, the idle fan speed at stock settings is ~1060RPM, which is barely audible. :) Haven't tried to lower it even further yet. Too bad EAH6850 didn't work out, really wanted t...

Re: Radeon 6850 Undervolting Survey
So I've RMA'd it back to Newegg for a replacement, should be here sometime next week. Even if it would be ~1500RPM like SPCR review, I would be happy since dBA measurements at those speeds were nice. Will update once I receive it. Hopefully its just a bad sample or bad batch, and it won't be a gamb...

Re: Radeon 6850 Undervolting Survey
Allwinner, thank you so much for your help. I've tried all four of your suggestions, but unfortunately they didn't work. Even without Asus SmartDoctor installed, the fan was ~1900 at idle. Confirmed by MSI Afterburner tachometer and GPU-Z sensors tab. Also, tried clean windows install again and used...

Re: Radeon 6850 Undervolting Survey
Were anyone able to lower the idle fan speeds below 1900RPM? Asus SmartDoctor cannot go below 22% fan speed. Also, at idle speeds (i.e. 2D mode), do you notice any whining noise from the GPU fan? Not sure if "whining" is a correct word, but there is some other sound in addition to the typical turbu...

Re: AMD & Asus DirectCU Radeon HD 6850 Graphics Cards
How would you undervolt/underclock this card further than in the review? Say, what would be good engine/memory settings at 1.05v or 1.00v (below reference)?

New i5-2500S build
A few years back I build a pretty quiet build thanks to SPCR, so now that Intel is about to release Sandy Bridge CPUs, I decided to finally upgrade. Below are the parts I'm considering to put together in the next few weeks or so. Will appreciate your thoughts, ideas, criticism, etc. Goal: at least 3...

You could use a Fanmate or similar to lower the voltage a bit, or depending on how hot your CPU gets and how the case ventilation is set up you could also try removing the fan and running the Minja semi passive. Interesting, but it will require constant temperature monitoring. I'm hoping there is a...

Hi SebRad, My CPU is Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane, and its not overclocked. The motherboard is Asus M2A-VM, which supports 3 and 4-pin CPU fans. At light/idle usage, the CPU fan speed is 1316RPM and the temperature is 40C. Its pretty quiet during the day, but at evenings when the ambient room noise le...

Can I swap to a quieter 80mm CPU fan than this?
I currently have a huge Scythe heatsink (SCMNJ-1000) with DFS802312L 80mm fan. Specs here: http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/007/dfs802512xx-series.html Is there a 80mm fan that is much quieter than this? I'm currently using AMD's Cool'n'Quiet, which automatically adjusts CPU clock and fan speed...

Computer Desk Cabinet
Hi all, My computer is inside a wooden cabinet with a front opening and back holes for ventilation. How can I damp the interior walls of the cabinet to lower computer fan noise? The fans are 120mm, 500-1500rpm. I found various options here: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&WebPage_ID=300 , b...

The only issue you will have is that the passive coolers available off the shelf generally are for the non AIW versions... Really? Zalman's specs don't say anything about not supporting AIW Radeons. From the pictures, the standard version is very similar to AIW except for the TV tuner box. The fan ...

Fanless cooler for Radeon 9700Pro AIW
Can ATI Radeon 9700Pro AIW be easily passively cooled? I'm considering ZALMAN ZM80D-HP, unless there is anything better. The CPU is cooled by Scythe Ninja (fanless). My average MB temps is about 95F (reported by Asus Probe Utility). I won't do any overclocking or underclocking. I play GPU intensive ...

Sonata's PSU gone bad?
Hi all, Its been over a year since I've build a comp. with a Sonata case, and recently its power fan started to spin-up loudly and then down, every 3-4 sec. If I'll game, it will restart after 15-20 min. When there is very cold in the room, its fine, but it was never like this, even during summer. T...
