I bought the 256MB version back in Dec. I had the problem of deciding between 512 ddr2 or 256 ddr3. The deciding factor was that I have a max resolution of 1280x1024 on my 19" LCD and thus have little need for more than 256mb RAM. Not to mention the fact that its faster as has been pointed out. Late...

Infernal Machine~~! Video drivers problem?
I turned on my computer and it did the normal startup: BIOS, Windows startup screen...then nothing. I'm thinking, "No big deal, I've seen this before. I've gotta corrupt video driver; so, restart in Safe Mode, uninstall drivers, restart, install updated drivers, restart, done." Easier said than done...

Dual Display: ATI vs Nvidia
OK, so Ive got two video cards: my old trusty x550 with a Zalman VF700 undervolted to 5V and a brand new 8600gt with a large fanless HS. I happily ran two 19" LCDs on the x550 and loved the way it worked most of the time. It occasionally freaked and did something weird, but I would just reset the se...

Comparing a Pentium 4 to modern processors is almost apples and oranges. As someone pointed out, a lowly Sempron could likely provide similar performance to your P4; however, going with a Sempron means buying a new laptop. And thats exactly what I suggest you do. Trying to upgrade an old laptop can ...

Cutting wires off fans
I'm a noob when it comes to electrical stuff... I got a few Yate Loons recently and I love em. BUT I dont like the 3/4 pin connections they have. I really only use 3 pin connectors so I would like to snip off the 4-pin molex connectors. Can I just snip them off and wrap the lose ends with ele...

If you dont want ABSOLUTE DEAD SILENCE I really recommend Antecs 80mm Tricools. I picked up two of them at CompUSA for $10 each. They are more expensive than I like, but I knew Antec wouldnt let me down...and they didnt. I replaced the 2600RPM screecher in my parents case with one of them. It pushes...

Adding a new hard drive
I built my own computer no probs, but now I wanna add a new HDD. I currently have a SATA Barracuda 7200.9 80gb drive, but its a lil small. So Ill prolly get a 400gb+ drive for Christmas. Anyways, my question is this: Can I just plug in the power and SATA connector and go? What I would like to do is ...

yea, i cant agree more. I bought my comp last fall after things had cooled down quite a bit. Then the Korean summer came...my already furnace-hot Prescott was heating up the place like you woulnt believe. I had to put a 14" fan next to my comp with the side off to keep the hot air circulating so tha...

Wow, I love it! Stylencio, indeed! A few questions for you: How much has the case cost to build? I realize you have spent countless hours on it, and theres no way to calculate that, but approximately how much have you spent on materials? Nother question: how hot do the side panels get under a modera...

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys. I started messing around with stopping the fans and your right Jefe, that 40mm fan is contributing a lot more noise than I originally thought. I'll have to look into solutions for that. And I think I'm gonna go for the Zalman 7000 for my CPU fan. After t...
