Re: Quiet refrigerators
Wow, I've never even heard of propane/natural gas powered refrigerators. Need to look into that. Probably not a good choice for me in an apartment building though? Also I can't put the cooling element outside for the same reason. As for the Sun Frost fridges... Don't think I could get those here but...

Quiet refrigerators
Can anyone recommend a refrigerator that is REALLY quiet? Or, possibly, one that has a pleasant, constant, noise profile instead of the "100% quiet for hours... then suddenly an insane BRANGGG sound when the compressor kicks in"? Do these even exist? It shouldn't be huge, so all 2-door versions are ...

Re: Fan control on the P8Z68-V
I got this solved. Thanks lodestar for pointing me to the right direction. I checked the manual, it was of no use as usual... But I tried out the chassis fan slots. And they both are voltage controlled, so it all works fine now. Of course it was the last slots I tried. I had tried the CPU and POWER ...

Fan control on the P8Z68-V
I have the Asus P8Z68-V motherboard. I also have a 3-pin CPU fan for it. Or two, really. Is there any way to control these without separate fan controller hardware? The BIOS is useless. I added all these fancy points where it's supposed to ramp up and down the fans but they do nothing. The whole BIO...

Re: Cooling the GTX 560 memory etc.
Hi, Arctic Cooling do a set of sinks for GTX 560 here. Don't know if will fit yours if not a standard layout. Can do like I've done and use generic VGA RAM sinks etc. You may not need additional air flow but if do a slow fan will be inaudiable and provide a large drop in temps. Seb The VR005 is app...

Re: Cooling the GTX 560 memory etc.
Wow that's a pretty crazy cooler you got there ;-) Yeah I'm not sure what I can cannibalize from the stock cooler. But it's probably not much. Something bigger would be better. I guess I could go your route and put a fan on it somehow. I do have a fan controller attached to temperature sensors lying...

Cooling the GTX 560 memory etc.
I want to watercool the Asus ENGTX560 (GTX 560) card. It's not a reference PCB so I will only be cooling the GPU core. So what should I use to cool everything else on the card? Do I need to get something specifically designed for this or do some small random heatsinks work equally well? Of course th...

What are the advantages of HTC devices? I really don't know a lot about those. What I've seen they only make the touchscreen-type smartphones?Johnnie wrote:I'd choose between HTC and Samsung devices.

Advice on a new phone?
I'm thinking about getting a new mobile phone and I'd appreciate your input. I really don't need any functions for it beyond calling and texting. I'd still like an OK screen, nice buttons etc, and that does tend to push the price up so the very cheapest phones are most likely out for me. Touchscreen...

Re: Building a case
Why not make some more room for cable management and the cables for better durability and more airflow? Cables shouldn't have to twist and turn in a case. The only cables that need to be twisted are the ones going to the video card. No matter how much room there is, it still needs to be done if the...

Re: Building a case
Air enters from where? GPU, power, network cables enter/exit from where? Air enters from the front sides. Through the PSU and the other side. See where there's none of that yellow stuff on the walls in the front? There. The radiator is very good. It just being there with minimal airflow will dissip...

Building a case
Hi. I've been coming here for years and I've built a few cases in my time utilizing your advice. Last one was pretty extreme, now I'm thinking about reducing it to the essentials. I have some stuff left over from that project; mainly the Thermochill PA120.3 radiator, a fan controller chip, and a bun...

You can become some kind of sports star. In Europe, you can make 100.000 € a week playing soccer. The initial investment is a soccer ball. Yes, and the best part is how easy it is. After all, training is for the untalented. ;-) You'd still have to bother to show up for the games though. I guess i...

To print 100m USD would take a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of capital. You can't just use your home printer to do this, nor can you print it on normal paper. The fake money is not immediately accessible because you can't use it in bulk. Fake money would never be that perfect and launderi...

Hey, how do I make 100 milion dollars?
You're supposedly smart, creative people... so I'll ask you this: What's the fastest way to make 100 million USD (or similar/greater amount in any other currency), with as little capital as possible? It doesn't really matter to me if it's legal or not. I've just been thinking about it and my imagina...

Windows 7 is slooowing dooown
For all you fans of Windows troubleshooting, here's a gift for you: I got a new HDD (Hitachi Travelstar 7k500) for my laptop (Asus N71VN), and replaced the boot drive with it (the laptop has two HDD's). I installed Windows 7 (x64). Now everything's slower. The laptop seems to be constantly working o...

I fixed it! Now it finds the TV just fine and everything works...

Yep that's one of the first things I tried. Now I've also installed two different versions of the Realtek audio driver, and one NVIDIA audio driver (which is what the old Panasonic used) but nothing works. I also tried the "diagnostics" tool in the TV but as I suspected it's a joke. It asks "did you...

I tried all three HDMI inputs. One of them is DVI/HDMI and doesn't support audio. It says so in the manual. That suggests the other two DO support audio. The TV recognizes the laptop just fine. Like in all Samsungs it refreshes the connection list in real time and the laptop shows up when I plug it ...

Audio to TV via HDMI?
I just got a new TV. It's Samsung LA32B450. Anyway, I'm trying to connect my laptop to it via HDMI, but I can't get audio through it. Video works just fine. With my other TV, Panasonic 40W4000, my laptop found a new "audio device" as the TV, and I just switched my audio output from the internal lapt...

Used space on an empty USB stick
Just out of technical curiosity:
I have a 8GB NTFS USB stick... When I go to its properties it shows it has 67,9MB of used space, even though it has absolutely nothing on it, including hidden files. What is this?

2 or 4 cores for a laptop CPU?
I'm getting a laptop, but can't decide between the P8700 and i7 720M CPU's. Sure the i7 is faster, at least in artificial benchmarks and whatever can actually utilize its 4 cores, but is it at all faster in "normal" use, such as browsing while playing HD media? What about something like Photoshop? O...

OK I got a multimeter and measured the rails... Or at least I thought I did. Set to DCV 20 the value climbs up to 900 on the 5V. The 12V showed something over 2000. So there's thousands of volts going thru this thing? ;-) I suspect I'm doing something wrong... Also when I got the multimeter 1 of my ...
