Phlebas: try sticking your ear up to it. No thanks. I'm not interested in trying to find noise for the sake of it, only what it sounds like in actual use inside a case! NB: my fans are running at either 5 or 7v. Don't know what rpm that makes them but they are quieter (or at least less noticable) t...

I believe these hx520's all make noise. Some people may have a higher ambient noise, more isolating case, or louder fans to hear the noise of this supply. It might also depend on how old you are - high range hearing naturally drops off as you get older (cf the use of the 'Mosquito' device to deter ...

I've got a couple of Western Digital WD1600BEVS drives in my PC. The one with the Windows partition on it is averaging around 155 load cycles per day. The drives are rated for 600,000 cycles so I guess I'll need to start getting concerned in 2017... 8) FWIW my non-windows drive averages around 30 lo...

As for the RAM sinks, they all fit on fine, but the adhesive on them is rubbish - they kept falling off, and the VRM sink was one long sink with screw holes at each end - this just didn't sit right and the holes didn't match up with any free areas on the underside of the board, so I couldn't drill ...

The one heatsink covers all three of them (assuming you're actually talking to me & not mr. poopyhead, I've got the PRO, not the XT).

NB: The S1 comes with one VRM to fit the X1950XT, X1900 & X1800 and a separate one for the X1950Pro.

No, 63 was the temp the ICEQ 3 cooler maxed out at under load. I don't know what temp the VPU had gotten to with the passive S1 when the screen went blank - I had to reboot to recover from it. Without further tests (which I don't intend to do!) I can't say what temp it got to, or if it was even the ...

Artic Cooling Accelero S1 & X1950Pro

I've just fitted an Accelero S1 to my X1950Pro card and thought you might like to know the results. Installation was a bit more complex than it need to have been because the ram heatsinks wouldn't stay stuck to the ram! I ended up refitting the ram heatsink that came with my X1950Pro (an HIS ICEQ 3 ...

Are you saying that having a rear case fan and intake fan would be detrimental to the temperature of that card as opposed to just a rear case fan, besides the heatsink/fan and PSU fan? To be honest I don't know without trying. Assuming intake & exhaust fans are equal then there will still be some n...

And if you look at the test setup, the cards are completely outside the case. I will once again post the link to his setup: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/09/seven_of_nvidia/page36.html But that's the problem and why he got such high temperatures. His setup will produce low temperatures for ac...

I decided to run a little test to see just what effect the card's air intake has. Case setup: SLK3000B with 120mm Nexus exhaust fan @ 7V, Seasonic S12-430 PSU, no intake fan. I've now taped over all of the holes on the left side panel. The GPU was idling at 33 C. I ran rthdribl for 10 minutes after ...

The supplied clips don't fix the Nexus but it only takes a few minutes to cut away the closed flanges (see http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=18368&highlight=nexus+xp120+flange). I used a coping saw. I've got the fan blowing into the SI-120 as I wanted some residual airflow directed at...

It's the motherboard temp as reported by ASUS Probe. But without knowing exactly where the sensor is, it's impossible to say exactly what the temperature represents. Not noticed the Seasonic rev up at all yet. But I don't find it to be anything like 'silent' either - it's not noisy but it's definite...

Not sure where the MB sensor is, but the northbridge runs rather hot so if it's near there then I can see why it records a higher temp. The Nexus is running at 7v. Went with the SI-120 because (a) it seemed less likely to have any future compatibility problems with motherboards and (b) it was in sto...

I'd get the 256mb silentpipe 2 version any day. First, because lots of people have had issues with the old silentpipe version overheating (which the new v2 is supposed to have addressed). Second, lots of games need more than 128mb on the card, so 256mb would be useful even if you only game occasion...

A8N-SLi Premium northbridge temps

Just wondering what other people are getting for their northbridge temps with this board. Mine is pretty hot to the touch and runs at 67C idle, 75+C when gaming according to Speedfan (using a config which reckons that the nb temp is the IT8712F temp 3 sensor plus 40C). Is this reasonable - seems hot...

Haven't noticed any reviews of this passively cooled card yet (I may just be blind, of course :?) so thought I would give my experiences. I've just put together the following system: Antec SLK3000B Seasonic S12 430W PSU Asus A8N-SLi Premium Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Thermalright SI-120 with Nexus 120mm fan...

Thanks for the comments. Fully agree with you re the PSU requirement, but the 430w model seems to be the lowest that any UK supplier stocks.

Overclocked 3800+ with a fanless Ninja? You're either brave or just damn good

Sanity check / advice please

Hi, planning on building a new PC with quietness in mind. Lots of options, far too many really :?, but the list below is what I'm currently considering. Would greatly appreciate it if someone could check I'm not about to make any major blunders! The PC will mostly be used for office / web stuff with...
