I checked with MSI: I cannot adjust the speed of the cooling fans on my video cards (I have two of the 8600GTS cards in one system, with three monitors). I have tried nTune, RivaTuner, and DualCoreCenter, and none of them will let me change the fan speed. Is it possible? Does this video card support...

No, I'm committed to these cards now. It took me too long to realize that nTune and RivaTuner really aren't able to slow the fans down. No big deal though, I'm sure that the existing fans will be fine once I get control of them, and if they're not, I still have options (Zalman, Arctic, etc). The onl...

Fan control for MSI 8600GTS?
I bought a pair of MSI 8600GTS cards assuming that they'd be noisy by default, but also assuming that I'd be able to slow down the fans to get a reasonable noise level when not playing games (which is most of the time, since I don't do much gaming). Unfortunately, neither nTune nor RivaTuner is able...

Thanks. When I bought this monitor I read in a bunch of places that single-link was good to 1600x1200 and dual link was needed for 1920x1200... Asus even told me that their cards at the time would not support 1920x1200. Apparently that's changed. That's cool, as it means I have more options. I've re...

Quiet, 2x DVI, dual-link, SLI, and under $200?
I have three monitors, so I want two dual-DVI cards. One of the monitors is 1920x1200, so I need dual-link DVI. I do a bit of gaming, so getting two identical cards for occasional use in SLI mode seems like a good idea. The "quiet" and "under $200" requirements are self-explanatory... These cards wi...

AMD maintains a list of the boards that it recommends for its processors. Some of the boards I was most interested in are not on AMD's 'recommended' list, which makes me a bit nervous. Decide for yourself: http://www2.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/1,,30_182_869_9460%5e9461,00.html?1135...

That's a good point, I should have said something about what kind of performance I'm looking for. I do very little gaming so my needs are pretty simple, but I would rather not take a step down from the GeForce 4 Ti 4600 that I have now. Which isn't much by current standards. But I'm willing to spend...

Fergy, are you talking about this card? http://www.giga-byte.com/VGA/Products/Products_GV-N66T128VP.htm tjoff, my monitor tells me that it is currently running DVI-D, but thanks for the clarifications. An in case anyone's wondering similar things, Asus replied that none of their cards support 1920x1...

Quiet 1920x1200 DVI?
If have a quiet PCIe video card that does 1920x1200 at the DVI port (with the digital signal, not analog), I'd like to know what card that is. I've been scouring the web to find a suitable card for my next system and there's hardly any solid info on what cards support 1920x1200 digitally. Even in th...

Neil: thanks for the welcome, and for that link. Nomoon, extra-thanks, I was hoping for first-hand reports like that. JJR: How do you suggest I "look for myself?" The manufacturers don't give clear specs. Google searches haven't helped. I posted on the Asus forum a couple days ago but got no respons...

fanless 1920x1200 DVI?
I heard from a friend that most graphics cards that have one d-sub connector and one DVI connector can generally only do 1600x1200 on the DVI, and you have to use the d-sub to get 1920x1200. Is that the case for the Asus Silencer cards as well? What about the Gigabyte 6600GT Silent Pipe? Is anyone r...
