WD10EARS vs WD10EADS
Which is quieter? I currently own a WD10EADS and am deeply annoyed by the bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound it makes occasionally when its idle. Unless WD10EARS doesn't have this issue, I plan on upgrading to it and sell off the EADS to someone who isn't noise fussy like I am. I'...

Quietest 320GB and 500GB
To my surprise, my WD3200AAKS is the loudest device in my Silverstone sugo sg05 casing, which is has many gaps for cooling. Wasn't audible when it was in my antec sonata casing.
the sound is make is a whoooooosh sound.
so comes the need to replace it, but with what?

Platter size, fewer but bigger the quieter right? But..
I've been wondering about this for a while. Look back, back then, platter density was very low. 80GB per platter. Now it's 320GB per platter. That's like 4 times. But, the physical platter size hasnt changed right? So, this naturally means data is recorded over a much smaller area on the platter rig...

Need a new 250GB Silent Drive 3.5"
I'm currently using 2x Samsung HD161HJ on raid0. The seek/writes are very quiet, but there was one thing i did not look into when i purchased it. Vibration. The humming is KILLING ME. It's not even a constant humming sound, it goes up and down. As if it's resonating. Now what options do I have? I de...

Hard Mounted. I want to have good speeds, but yet silent. my HD501LJ is very silent, but im not gonna make RAID0 out of that. I want to use it as my system drive. I think 2x160GB == 320GB is far too much for a system drive.. but heck, that's less a waste than a 2x320gb or 2x500gb. 5400RPM drive is p...

What we got?
I got a HD161HJ, ok, you can't hear seeks. However, the whole casing is humming. Happens on my Antec SOLO and SONATA 2
The drive vibrates a heck lot.
What other options I got?

What are my options that are just Seagate / Samsung. I currently own a 74GB Raptor.. noisy compared to my HD501LJ. especially when writing.... and especially since its use as my drive c i wanna go 80gb/160gb raid... with a silent drive. maybe that'd give me more space, better price, better performan...

Well, I own two of these disks now, and one of them is DoA.. initially it didn't power up, i thought it was my problem. then while copying data, it kept unpowering and repowering itself. seem like one of the platters isn't functioning properly the way it seems... anyone still confident with this dri...

[Survey] Most Silent (Recent/New) 3.5" Drive 300-400GB
Right now, I have about 6 250GB 7200.9 Seagate Drives and during the time I decided to purchase them, I felt Seagate drives are the most reliable and also silent (older models). I'm getting increasingly annoyed over the seeks right now. Are there any reliable drives right now comparable to Seagate? ...

The idle noise is very good, but in general, the seek noise of the 7200.9 is unacceptable to me. YMMV. As for the Anandtech acoustic testing -- it's wrong in every way from a scientific, acoustic PoV. I would not accept any of the data as being useful in any way. It's too far from accepted standard...

1. There is no reliable way of judging drive reliability short of examining return records. For reasons that should be obvious, these records are not public. Well, then you should look Hard drives return rates on this hardware news site. It's a belgian/french website, and they belong to the same co...
