Pleasantly suprised by Q9300
I just built a system with a Q9300, Ultra 120, and Sythe fans. I have been impressed by how cool this thing runs. Even after a lot of photoshop work (layering, filters, etc) and complies the temps are in the mid 40 range. I like these numbers, but want to ensure that they are not a fluke. Any sugges...

Now I need to find the cause for why Halo freezes everythime after one cycle of online gaming has finished. Meaning: the new cycle should start automatically, but it doesn't ... How do you attach you cooler mounting plate to your MB?
I got frustrated with the plate dropping every time I pulled my Ultra 120. So I used a little electrical tape to stick the plate to the underside of my Asus MB. Hopefully it will not melt over time.

Any issues removing grill on Modu+82?
Hi,
My case has a cross brace that runs right below where the power supply mounts. This brace presses against the grill on the Modu+82. Is there any issue, other than sticking my fingers into the fan, with removing this grill?

Any issues with ultra 120 height?
Hi,
Reading the specs and measuring my MB and case it seems that this cooler is very tall. Has anyone had problems using this cooler in a full size tower case?

I'm rather disappointed by the lack of connectors on the 425W model. Only 3 SATA connectors on one cord. Seasonic M12II-430 for the win. I hear that alot. However, I cant see why people would want anymore than 3 SATA connectors. 1 HDD + 1 optical drive + what? Extra HDD? I am planning a RAID 10 arr...

Thanks for the pointers. I tried a couple on on-line calculators and the power requirements listed were all over. For example, the calculator at Newegg said 698 Watts. The one at extreme power supply say 399. I am a bit confused on which to believe. I have an Antec Earthwatts 430 sitting in the clos...

Why do you need a 700 watt PSU anyway? Thermaltake aren't known for making remotely quiet PSU's. Couldn't find any noise reviews of the 700watt version, or the fan used, but i will make a guess that you can drop the wattage down and get a much quieter option. The popular option at the moment is the...

Hi, My drives are all mounted using Stretch Magic. They drives nice and quite. However in the last few months I have been having intermittent drive problems, (fsck failures on one, etc). I am going to replace the drives, but thought I would run Spinrite on them to see what sort of errors I got. I wa...

Hi, I am thinking about building a NAS for my home and need some guidance. My basic requirements are: Silence - This is key to me (and I am sure everyone here). Hey I run Aero fine on my FX5200 - on a not quite so good system with only 512mb of RAM. Can't say for sure, but high end cards aren't needed. You can stay below $100 if you're tight on the wallet. OK. That sounds good. I am thinking about going with a cheap card, since I may replace the MB in the ...

Suggestions for quiet, Vista ready, AGP card, DVI
Hi, I just ordered a DVI monitor. I want to run it on my ASUS 8AV deluxe MB system which has an AGP interface. Re: Can Microsoft save the world?
As Vista prepares for a delayed takeoff, I'm wondering if anyone knows whether Microsoft is going to do one small, very simple thing to reduce the power consumption associated with computing: Eliminate the "screen saver" and blank the screen after, say, 30 minutes of inactivity. As we change from C...

hmmmm.... a compaq AMD media center PC in a small tower form factor. My first guess is that the fan that's revving up and down is probably in the power supply, but it could also be a compaq-specific CPU heatsink/fan. Stock AMD coolers don't have built in thermal fan speed control, so if there is on...

Hi,
Is there a way to disable my system's habit of varying the speed on the fans? The change in pitch when the system starts working really bothers me.

Best way to deal with fan sensing BIOS
Hi, I bought myself a cheap Compaq SR1920NX system to use as an email and browsing unit. I am trying quiet this system down, but am having problems with the BIOS. I put a couple of FANMate 2s on the system which slow down the CPU and case fan. However, the BIOS believe they are too slow, and throws ...

Re: How quiet/loud is the Infrant ReadyNAS?
I'd be interested in hearing about people's experiences with the Infrant ReadyNAS X6 or 600 boxes. Reviews seem to suggest it's reasonably quiet, but still noticeable. How loud is it with 3 or 4 large drives running? And how hot do the drives get? One of the advantages of a NAS box is that it can b...
