Re: AMD A10-7890K 95W Flagship APU

I have one question about the methodology of this thread: Is that HD 6570 you used one of the review samples using GDDR5 AMD teased us with, or is it the actual DDR3 model we could buy in retail? You use it quite often, but never mention that important detail. It can make quire a difference in perfo...

Re: AMD & Intel 65W Stock Coolers

... I wonder why an SPCR member would be interested in ANY stock cooler info. period. Simple: for cooling Core i3s silently, Intel's stock coolers are more than adequate. That really should be what the article concentrated on. I have a stock HSF on my 55w Core i3 3225 and with a custom fan curve I ...

Re: Dual Screen Fanless HTPC

Trust me, the i3 3225 is already overkill for you if you're not gaming. Most reviews show the i3 to have the muscle to power modern games running on high-end discrete graphics cards, so asking it to stream video and browse the web is relatively painless :D I am the happy owner of a Core i3 2100T and...

Re: Need suggestions for Silent MiniITX case

I went ahead with the Node 304. It's a very large case, but the fans are as silent as-advertised on low (and very quiet on medium)! And there's enough room for a dual-slot graphics card if I feel the need later. The six hard drive mounts are WAYYY overkill, but I do like the fact that you can remove...

Need suggestions for Silent MiniITX case

I have the following ready for a build, and just need a case suggestion: Core i3 3225, 55w 8GB ram Asus H77 MiniITX Corsair 120GB SSD To reference of what I consider "silent," I have an ISK 300-65 fitted with a Noctua 80mm fan like performed in the SPCR review: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article9...

Re: Suggestions on i3 2100T MiniITX build

So, the Noctua NF-R8 arrived, and I installed it. Here are my experiences: The Noctua fan has two adapters, one for Low Noise and one for Ultra Low Noise No Adapter: Fan was same noise level as the Tricool stock fan on low, but without the bearing rattle. Sound was VERY smooth, and moved a ton of ai...

Re: picoPSU power adapter for i5 build?

Thanks for the reply. I'm kind of confused on which power adapter to get. How come there's a 102W and a 60W? http://www.mini-box.com/Power-Supplies-Kits I would say it's because they have a limited selection of premade OEM PSUs. When you consider that most laptop PSUs use higher voltages (18.5v is ...

Re: picoPSU power adapter for i5 build?

You'll probably be okay. Thanks to power gating, the i5 consumes about the same as the i3 at idle, and unless I misunderstand your intent here, I expect that those cores will never be fully-loaded. So long as you're not planning on a RAID-5 array with tons of drives, you should be fine.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I kinda got distracted by Irene (and lost power for a week). So, I finally got around to ordering the system last week. I went with the ISK 300 as-suggested, and I stuck to the ASUS P8H61-I. This case is phenomenal. It has a solid feel, and nothing seems misaligned...

Re: Suggestions on i3 2100T MiniITX build

That ISK300-65 looks like just what I'm looking for. PSU is external, efficient and more than enough for this build. I especially like how well it performs with the Intel Stock Cooler + Noctua on extreme low settings! Obviously I'll have to swap the fan with something else. Is the Noctua NF-R8 still...

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. For the z-series Atoms with Polusbo (i.e. your system), the processor is already using less power than the chipset, the screen or the hard drive. The processor already clocks-down to several layers of sleep states (C0-C6, C6 = 80mw), and I guarantee you can'...
