Re: FSP Aurum Gold 400 experiences?
I recently bought the FSP Arnum Gold 400W from Newegg. It is very quiet, on par with the Seasonics/Corsairs I've used in the past. Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?
I also am running a Q6600 for my SageTV server, it has 2x1TB black WD and 2x750GB Green WD, onboard graphics, pulls about 85-90W idle as I vaguely recall. My goal is less for 2 separate PCs. I agree, we're lacking in the US for low power, good, very efficient PSUs. Kiddies here just want 1000W or wh...

Re: Fortron Aurum Gold 400 or Seasonic ss-300et or ?
I think my i3-2100 on an Intel DH61WW board idles about 20-25W in a bare bones configuration. It's not in use at the moment or I'd test it, maybe later today. I have just finished extensive testing on a tweaked Asus M4A785-M and AMD Sempron 140 unlocked to dual core (same power usage single/dual cor...

Re: Intel DH67CF mini-ITX: is CPU undervolting an option?
I'm upgrading my SageTV server which idles at ~85W with a Q6600, Asus mATX board, 2x2GB RAM, Corsair 450W PSU. Looking at several alternatives, will also create an additional file server too. Inspiration from Matt Garmin, Green Frank, others here, and a LOT of reading on German website Hardwareluxx,...

Re: 540 i3 Higher Than Expexted Idle Wattage HTPC Wrong PSU?
Thanks for the replies gents!! I guess historically I've just built a PC, tweaked the BIOS settings a bit, and was good to go. I usually install Windows to test it then either continue to run Windows or install Linux. I initially had all the power settings enabled in the BIOS at one time, I'm now at...

Re: 540 i3 Higher Than Expexted Idle Wattage HTPC Wrong PSU?
Interesting, I've built a similar PC to use as a media server, perhaps virtually. Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H (2 RAM slots) i3-550 Intel LGA775 CPU copper slugged cooler modded to fit on the 1156 board, 2 120mm case fans 2x2GB OCZ high performance 1.65V RAM temporarily pulled out of my i7-920 rig 2.5" WD 3...

My "spatual" is an old credit card cut a little wider than the CPU. I run a good bead of AS5 along the top edge and less in the middle. I hold the credit card at an angle and press while spreading the AS5. It usually takes 2 passes and I have a perfect, even, thin coat. I do the AMD CPUs on the moth...

Your CPU temps do seem strange. My fleet of AMDs with stock heatsinks have never run over 40 during operation according to BIOS or the temp on the MicroFly case. They are all undervolted though. I am listening to music and surfing at 33.3C on a 3600 dual core now. I bought a Q6600 on impulse for $17...

I do NOT have a IP35 Pro, but I have a Gigabyte 690G board with the same Realtek LAN chip on it, also running off the PCI bus. I have done extensive LAN testing and found this chip/system will receive fairly fast, maybe 45MBytes/sec, but only sends at about 18MBytes/sec, the slowest sending system I...

I think you have some things mixed up Andy. I am normally an AMD guy, but the Gigabyte series you mention are P35 based, not G35. G=onboard graphics, P=you need to by a seperate graphics card. I might still look at a 5000 and 780G based board if you want onboard video unless you have specific needs....

I have both a Biostar TA690G and Gigabyte equivilent. I use the Biostar daily and like it very much, overclocked and undervolted 3600 CPU. The chipset on the Biostar is much cooler than on the Gigabyte. I have not removed the heat sink on the Gigabyte and reinstalled with AS5 to check it, no time, s...

Well, I got a late start on assembling the PC last night, kinda finished at 1:15am and called it a night, didn't run it. I just went home and fired it up, no OS just into the BIOS. My chipset next to the CPU runs hotter than hell too, the other chipset is ok. I think it is time to see what thermal c...

Well Frank, I have the Gigabyte board on order. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I am planning on going out of town for the weekend so I won't have a lot of time to play with it. My TA690G heatsinks are barley warm to the touch, actually seemd cool, so I am curious about the Gigabyte. I also have ...

This thread has me wondering about my new MSI 690G full ATX board. The NB runs pretty hot (enough to make you want to pull your finger off after a few seconds). It seems to me many 690G mobos (Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, for examples) have hot NBs. Maybe my Biostar is an anomaly. Can anyone with a Biostar...

I do a lot of Linux/Unix work and know that the PIII 512MB works great in this application. It even works fine for a Linux desktop. I want to use SATA in everything, I rebuild and swap parts often and want it standardized and SATA is eaasier to work with. Every machine does have Gigabit. If I transf...

I am glad to see somebody else is goofy enough to be considering this with a PIII. First your answer. I have 2 Seasonic S12-330s and they seem to work great powering one drive, passive 6600, AMD64 3000 Winny, 1gig, etc. I looked on Newegg under the reviews of this PSU and found someone wrote this: P...
