I went ahead and ordered a 2.5" 7200rpm drive (Seagate ST9320421AS). I will try to post some of my observation when I get it.

Are 7200rpm 2.5" drives louder than 5400rpm 2.5"? Would it be noticeable if they were both soft mounted?

I was about to jump on the WD 640GB drive when I saw a good price on a Seagate 2.5" 320GB drive.

How quiet are Seagate's notebook drives? Are they as bad as their desktop drives?

I installed XP and indeed my temp reading is also stuck on 44C. Bios, however, is reporting only reporting 9C.

Also what is a safe CPU Vcore for an E8400. I have is at 1.33 and still cant get it stable. Of course, CPU-Z is reporting a lower value.

well I went for the E2140 for $60+tax.

unRAID has the capability of spinning down the drives, so I am hoping in idle with drives spun down my power usage will be around 70W.

since unraid is based on linux will speed step still work, i.e. is it only bios based?

going by the numbers in the link above, i am leaning towards the E2140.
