Maybe I should've clarified the picture, if you're at all noise-aware or you're not a bencher and you don't need cross-fire, there should be no need to go P45 over P43 at all. As long as the P43 board in question has all the features you want/need. :)

Re: What should I do? My dream mobo got delayed - again!

They don't have hardware RAID. It's all done in software, like every other consumer board ever made. I'm sure I read somewhere that hardware RAID was the main new ICH10R. Maybe I just dreamt that up? Probably. The biggest difference between the ICH9R and the ICH10R is that they removed port multipl...

Re: What should I do? My dream mobo got delayed - again!

How is the power conpsumption of the ASUS boards these days? I know their P35 boards were real heater cores. I haven't really considered an ASUS P45 board at all for that reason (it's been either Gigabyte, since they seem to have fixed their DPC problem with P45, or preferably Abit for their fan con...

Did you test before flashing? If you didn't... well... then it doesn't say anything at all really.

If you did test it on your old BIOS, then upload a screenie of that for comparison. It looks like it's fixed, but not everyone was experiencing this issue, so you may just have been lucky all along.

Back to the original question. In the power section of the bios where it reads the rpm, voltages etc, hit the enter key on the selected value, and select "ignore" or something like that. That should disable the warnings for low / no rpm. Ah! On second thought, that is actually what I did. Long time...

canthearyou > what PCI cards do you have currently? Most likely you will only need a single PCI-E x16 slot for a graphics card and a sound card, since a lot of people - like me - won't make do with the integrated solutions. The sound card is very much optional. Other than that you probably won't ne...

I think I had to disable "Halt On Errors" or whatever it was on my ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. I know I got it working, although maybe not in an ideal way.

There are lots of P45 boards out... sure no other one suits you? No, no other P45 board that I know of suits me. Otherwise I'd never have waited to begin with. I'd consider the Asus Maximus II Formula, much the same as the abit card, but actually available. I have the Maximus Formula SE, and there'...

What should I do? My dream mobo got delayed - again!

Ok, been waiting for Abit's IP4x Pro motherboards for about three months now! First it was supposed to come soon, so I waited. Then it was supposed to come 2008-07-01 according to my HW distributor. I thought, the summer's barely started, I can wait another month. And then they change it to 2008-08-...

It's more like a 30W real-world difference between 4870 and 4850 afaik. Unless you can think of a better after-market cooling solution, I think it's worth a try. Anything kless than a 30" monitor and your unlikely to gain more than a few fps in a few games with the x2. The 4870 is good enough to pla...

There will probably not be any tangible difference between 4870X2 and 4870 1GB CF. Neither is out yet, though. As for idle noise, I reckon it could be acceptable. Don't know, check reviews once it's out. It's a lot about how sensitive you are. Noise-levels on high-end cards can be amazingly acceptab...

Well, for 1080i material (and there will be such material, unfortunately) de-interlacing will be applied. Also, when resizing HD material (such as 720p -> 1080p and vice versa) filters are definitely used as well. I think post-processing is used on "native" HD as well to some extent (may not be requ...

I don't know about the 3870X2 specifically, but generally VGA/GPU blocks are so small that you can easily fit two non-specialized ones on a "double-card". If you don't want water-cooling, 4870 CF is indeed the better solution through a noise perspective (although for performance the extra VRAM of th...

I would definitely pick the single HD 4870X2 as it sports 1024 MB RAM per core instead of 512MB per card in the case of HD 4870 CF. I doubt you'll get a quiet system either way. Get Zalman's 850W PSU (ZM850-HP) as it's the quietest you'll get at a 400w+ kind of load. To get an idea of 4870 CF power ...

I'm very confused here. How does image quality for different hardware accelerated graphics solutions today compare (decoding, post-processing and all that stuff)? It's for an HD HTPC (lots of different formats will be played, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p variatons of Blu-Ray, h264/MPEG4 AVC, x264...

Ah thanks for clearing that up, the DDR2 Vs. DDR3 thing is interesting, though it's tricky to find benchmarks based around the higher clocked DDR3 modules, most of the talk is around the 1066 stuff. Still, it does look like low latency DDR2 at 1066Mhz could be the way to go. As for the P45, it look...
