I think I knew someone who had this psu. It was some sort of CM 430W unit, so I'm guessing it's about the same as this one. It was quiet, but not really SPCR quiet. I would say it was above average, but certainly not the best. You can't get seasonic where you are?[/i]

Hi, I think I remember reading that in Gigabyte boards BIOS somewhere you can change whether it controls fan speed via voltage (3pin) or PWM (4 pin) mode so I think you'll be fine. There's a thread about it somewhere... Mine has this feature as well, but I don't remember changing it after I realize...

You should still be able to control 3 pin fans with speedfan/bios. My Gigabyte board has 4 pin fans--and terrible bios fan control. I have a 3 pin fan plugged into the 1  controllable header, and it works fine with speedfan. Note that you have to disable the bios fan control, and enable softwa...

good comparison. I calculated similar numbers for my opteron overclocked, and then for undervolted. I find that overclocked the chip uses more kilowatt-hours per WU than it does when undervolted and slightly overclocked. I did this by measuring the maximum cpu load while folding, the time it takes ...

I think it would make sense to try to use the RAM you already have. I wouldn't worry about the price of a video card, one can be had for very little new and even less used. Also, I would try to get a board that allows you to overclock, as Core2Duos seem highly overclockable, and I think this can gre...

The cache question matters to me because I'm looking between a single-channel DDR board with a 6320 versus a dual-DDR board with a 4400. How big is the price difference between the single and dual-channel boards? I didn't think there were any current boards that didn't support dual-channel memory.

Need Partition Magic Help

I'm trying to boot off of my Partition Magic 8 CD so I can partition a new hard disk. After I select the Partition Magic utility from the menu, I get an "Internal Error Code 006". I haven't been able to find anything by googling this error code. Does anyone here know how to fix this?

I think so. I'm not really sure if the 100mm refers to the size of the frame, or space between the holes, or whatever, or whether that will cause problems. At the very least, I suppose you could run the two fans a lot slower, while still getting airflow comparable to the original fan. Or consider bu...

Okay, I think I know what I'll do when I get it rebuilt. Once I have the O/S and a couple programs on, I'll create an image and make bootable disk that can restore the image. Anyway, why not just call/e-mail some PSU manufactures and ask them their view on running units at > 50% utilization? I'm sure they would say you could run at 100% utilization indefinitely, whether or not they knew this was true. However, they would probably qualify this answer with a reminder about...

I almost did the reverse; used a case like that with a new computer in it. The headers for the Dell's case switches and LEDs were not standard, but could be figured out pretty quickly. Mine was semi-passive. There was a duct from the rear case fan over the processor. I've seen quite a few Dell Penti...

I was thinking about the USB current limit as well, but aren't most laptop coolers USB powered? Re: DIY project, need some advice

1) is there a way i can increase the voltage through a circuit board, if so, how. Yes, there are devices called charge pumps or switched mode regulators. White LED drivers often use these devices, due to the higher forward voltage of white LEDs. You'd have to look at some data sheets, but not too l...

As a practical matter, overclockers and their ilk will likely buy a new power supply every couple of years for their Radeon/Geforce XXXX/ULTRA/OMG/WTF/FUBAR SLI/CROSSSSSSSFIRE upgrades anyway, so they really have no need to worry about longevity.

I'm guessing whoever said this phase wire stuff meant ground, and flipping the switch on the back will not disconnect the ground. When you turn off your computer with the switch on the front, you don't turn off the psu entirely. It still makes the stand-by voltage so that you can turn it on again. T...

All fan noise specifications are essentially made up, and Thermaltake's especially so. And, as you say, Thermaltake doesn't have a reputation for quiet, either. If you need a new 120mm fan, go with Scythe or Yate Loon, or one of the others reviewed here.
