Re: HDPLEX H10 Fanless microATX Case
Not too sure on what your seeing.. thought maybe ATX power might be a tad short. The 4pin CPU power would need an extension on my boards. No SATA power plugs and you would need one that wasn't angled based on where the SSD is in that photo (or mount the drive upside down I guess). I have a few P5N7A...

Albeit a bit late on a response, but yes the DVI or HDMI can display 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 depending on monitor. The wording used by ASUS on the product description is poor. The max resolution they are describing is if you are playing HDCP content (blueray for example) on a non-compliant HDCP HDMI/...

If you run this board horizontal (as most htpc orientations would be) you can do a quick little mod to help the mcp79 cooling. The ASUS logo on the heatsink is just double sticky back tape attached. It covers the center length of the heatsink and inhibits proper air flow if the board is lying flat. ...

I've recently checked a case I outfitted with stretch magic for four drives almost 2 years ago. It appears to have lost only some minor elasticity but is still very adequate and strong enough for the four drives. I used two separate strands on front and back with their own knots to give it some back...

From a general use with XP perspective, I've been running two WD500AACS-00ZUB0 with XP for about a year now. One has the OS while the other is for data (i.e. not raid 0). It's a general useage PC that is mostly powered off when not in use. Looking at the smart data in everest shows: Drive 1 - WinXP ...

Quiet Drive Bay PSU's options
I have a couple of Thermaltake A2422RU Mini ITX 5.25in Bay 270W PSU's that have dual 40mm fans. Unfortunately the fans on these emit a high pitch noise that isn't obnoxiously loud but enough that you know your system is on when the sound is off. I have a dual height 5.25" space and have been trying ...

Oooo... ok.. I have enough parts to play around with that. I have the same Scythe fans and funny enough, an old internal CD ROM case looks to be useful for this experiment (I have the hole saws for metal work). In the end it turns out I'm trying to get something like a "Lian Li BS-01 Aluminum Blower...

3 wire PCI Slot Fan?
I'd like to control and monitor the speed of a PCI slot fan via the motherboard and have been searching for a 3 wire version (if such a thing exists). I unfortunately need to keep to what's been a common form factor for this type of fan. Example: http://www.antec.com/images/400/cycloneblower.jpg Doe...

ECS G31T-M Undervolt ideas
I got this board as a "throw away" when purchasing a new Intel E6850. Those not familiar with Fry's Electronics stores here in the U.S., they tend to bundle Box Retail CPU's with ECS boards at a usually less than their going CPU price (and at times beating online prices once you consider shipping co...

Passive 3U CPU heatsink
I have two 3U rackmount cases in a studio that I've been trying to get really quiet. We unfortunately couldn't go for 4U cases due to space limitations in the rack. The rackmount CPU heatsinks that I've seen for sale as passive aren't really. They are counting on a high noisy air flow through the ca...

One other odd-ball thing to mention (just in case someone else sees it). With this board, if you disable Firewire in BIOS it doesn't exactly hide/disable it from the OS. Normally when disabling integrated devices in BIOS, those devices won't be detected by an OS. For Windows in this case it shows up...

I don't think there is a magic answer to this one but thought I'd ask anyway. I have a non-PC device that has a fairly noisy Nidec TA300DC 80mm fan. 12v 3pin lead, 35cfm @ 31.7 dBA (4.5 Bels) and looking at the specs runs about 2600 to 2800 RPM. That's the problem. The motherboard (A8N VM CSM) only allows the CPU fan header to be controlled. The one other fan header doesn't allow control via speedfan. Hence, I'd like to try and tie in the motherboard/S.M.A.R.T temperatures to an external fan controller as an overall soltion. Otherwise the o...

Good idea. Haven't seen an on/off type of thermal control though (but will look). The majority seems to allow some voltage through (ala FanMate or Thermistor on the fan itself) and don't have a temp threshold. Might have to build something. Maybe more complicated, but had an idea that could handle a...

Drive Fan Off when Drives are in standby?
I have a few cases with a fan in front of the hard drives and in some cases, I'm using this item from Scythe: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835185020 System is already pretty low wattage, so I tend to just put the hard drives in standby when not in use.
