Use the silencing techniques suggested anyway -- I remember visiting a friend whose server 2 floors away could beheard constantly!
Will do that.

Amazing how often this topic comes up... when we ran a whole series of home server build guides that's linked to the main menu! Look on the main left column on any SPCR main site page, and you will see " Silent PC Build Guides " Start here -- Silent Home Server Build Guide -- and you will get to Mi...

Re: Quiet build with eight hard drives, possible ?

A NAS for 5-8 drives cost alot, and i need a new computer. So why dont get a new computer with alot of space ? First, here's spcr. You won't get any advice without reference to noise. Second, you're always talking about 8 drives. How much TB do you really need ? If you're talking max data you're in...

Re: Quiet build with eight hard drives, possible ?

With NoVibes III HDD Decoupling Rack and enough 5.25" bays you can decouple eight drives. The questions remain, why? How much hard drive space do you really need and does it have to be in the same computer as your work machine? Eight 5K drives might not be silent, but tolerable if decoupled and you...

Re: Quiet build with eith hard drives, possible ?

It's possible, but you still won't get silence from any multi-hard drive system. I had eight WD Green drives in my server a while back, and it was definitely quiet once I suspended the drives (a necessity IMO) but still audible if you listened for it. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic....

Re: Quiet build with eith hard drives, possible ?

(i assume op wants "eight" HDD's.) of course its doable, and it wont take that much power, depending on other components....but the real question is why? what else is this rig going to be doing besides running 8 HDD's? and, unless youre going to suspend 8 drives, it wont be silent.... ops sorry for...

ASRock CORE 100HT, change fans ?

Does anyone know a better fan. Or got some other ideas how to get a ASRock CORE 100HT run quieter.

Have't found much info about the orginal fans, but its a 60mm fan on the back.

think it will be enough to put 10mm foamboard on the side of the hddcase ? You seem to have excellent DIY skills. Give it a try and let us know the results, both on seek noise and HDD temperature! do you have rubber around the hdd's or ? doesnt they get warm then ? Yes, there's an awful lot of rubber around the HDDs, except for the open rear. They run quite cool, because of the 100mm spot-cooling fan that sits between them. Air is drawn in past the bottom HDD, and blown out past the top HDD....

Since that compucase is almost identical with Antec SLK3000B ( I have had 6A21 as one case before I got P-182B for my gaming rig), you easily can make rubber suspension, simply by removed that HDD cage and but HDD's in elastic thing hanging from 5,25" bay like I did. I used used Bike Innertube to m...

That's a cool cage but won't that still make a lot of noise during seek? The rubber is a good idea, but they're still solid materials, and will leak vibrations to the cage which would rattle against the case. You might want to switch up the rubber with sort of soft foam, or you could insulate the b...

my advice for any type of drive suspension is to look north. it'll be a lot easier to use small bungee cords [the really little ones] hooked onto screws that are partly screwed into the holes on the underside of the drive. clean, effective, and its got plenty of life for it. don't use rubber bands,...

Here's my system in an Evercase 4252, with a "passive" Ninja on an Athlon 64 X2 4200+: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=319124&highlight=#319124 the case is a Compucase 6...

Hello, I would do it the other way 'round -- put the fan in the rear of the case, exhausting the air out, and put no fan on the Ninja at all. That works great for my Athlon 64 X2 4200+ -- and the rear fan only runs part of the time! Sometimes, just the S12 PSU above the Ninja is running, along with...

when you mount the ninja, the best place to mount the fan would be so that the fan in blowing air over the fins toward the back of the case, where the rear fan is for exhaust, so it just cools it. as for the fan, well, it doesn't really matter, you could use an S-Flex, Nexus, maybe undervolt the st...
