The 10eacs is the 'normal' version of the Green Power, 3 year warranty, designed to work as a stand-alone drive, aimed at home users. The RE2 is the 'Raid Edition'. It comes with a 5 year warranty, and is usually a bit more expensive. There are some small differences, but the only big difference is ...

WD Caviar RE2-GP, disable enterprise edition?

Edit: solved, but I'll leave the post here incase it helps others who search for it. Yesterday my hard drive died. I'm getting a new hard drive delivered tomorrow ( Western Digital Caviar RE2-GP 1TB Green Power ). The Green Power stuff, while slower, looks cooler and quieter, but unfortunately I ord...

Raid 0 failing, any way to backup individual hdd?

My question first, then the background information: Is it possible to copy the data from a failing drive onto a spare drive, and replace it in a raid 0 without any problems? Possibly relevant background: One of the hard drives in my raid 0 is failing, it sometimes wont start up properly, and randoml...

I'm using an Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 on my X1900XTX (in a P180), I can really recommend them. The main reasons I chose the Accelero over the alternatives was that it is easy to install, and was the only one which used the onboard VGA fan controller (which as Autoboy mentioned, is temperature sens...

I've got a 120GB PATA Spinpoint (Nidec), it's very quiet, especially with AAM.

No idea about the Sata2 400GB, but my SATA 160GB Spinpoints (Nidec) are much louder, and AAM doesn't do anything.

The two worst offenders were Norton and 1,000 fonts, either roughly doubled the boot time. You mentioned Dreamweaver... do you have a...

Just a minor update, a few days after installing the Infinity my CPU temps jumped considerably. Using the same hardware as before I noticed the CPU had reached 91C while gaming, a few days earlier under load (2*prime95) it had only reached 55C. I've added the fan that came with the Infinity as a top...

MikeC, you were right, Prime95 does increase the heat. New figures: Nexus rear exhaust at 12v (~1050rpm) after 30 mins: cpu 55, mobo 47, ambient ~19. No fans at all after 4 minutes: cpu 80, mobo 50. I wussed out and shutdown the PC. It was stable though. The P5B deluxe has trouble detecting low fan ...

I tried running an AMD 200+ fanlessly using a modernish aluminium heatsink with fan disabled, it'd be fine until it had been under 100% load for about an hour, needed a tiny bit of airflow. With heatsink designed to run fanlessly (like the Zalman 6000) you should be OK. For the last about year I've ...

I've left the thermal pad on there and added some thermal compound (the sutff that came with the heatsink) I wouldn't think having both thermal compound and pad would help. Yes. If it's a small cpu then definitely, if it's an older intel cpu, with integrated heatspeader (taking up most of the socket), then it'd still be advisable, but you could try it anyway. By small cpu I mean about 1cm by 0.8cm, the ones with integrated heat spreaders are about 2.5cm by 2.5cm. It'd ...

I'm looking at getting a laptop for a relative, purely for websurfing, she's not as fussed about quiet components as I am, so anything which doesn't sound like a turbine is OK. I bought 4 Nexus 120mm fans, but so far have only used 2. One would start flawlessly at 5V, the other wouldn't. Currently using a Zalman fanmate on each fan, not too sure of the voltage, but I'd guess about 7V (both start flawlessly).
