Argh! Linux SMP client expired

Having just discovered that my version of the Linux SMP client has just expired, I went to download the new beta... only to find no updated instructions on the Stanford Folding website and no mention of it in the Finstall instructions I sought via Google. Hoping there's someone smarter than I who ca...

That is a very low load setup. I would say probably less than 50W most of the time. I would think you could get away with the SS300SFD fanless. Or you could throw a Nexus on it and see if it ever spins up. That way it's also there as a backup in case you decided to use it in the dessert or somethin...

Shot in the dark guess: search for "Antec NSK3400" on this forum. It's an update to the previously-reviewed NSK3300 with room for a full-size ATX power supply. Go over the NSK3300 review; it might be just roomy enough for your desired configuration.

I'm impressed with Scythe's S-FLEX fluid dynamic bearing fan; one exhasts my Antec NSK2400 care :) Don't know if they're appropriate for CPU heatsink duty, though; hopefully someone here with more experience than I can chime in. Don't forget to pore through the fan reviews; these folks sampled a bun...

Oops! My mistake; the SI-120 is the high-riser that fits Socket 478 boards. If memory serves, its fin placement is less dense than the SI-128, as well, so you'll have less turbulence noise.

Re: Suggestions for best Cost:Fold setup?

Just upgraded my computer and realized I have a fair amount of the parts to build another machine which would probably just be used for FAH. I'm looking for suggestions on what would be the cheapest setup for best folding results. What I have: AMD A64 3200+ (939 socket Winchester) 1 GB (2x512mb) DD...

Incidentally, while the people saying "scrap the Aptiva" have some valid points, you'd be missing out on the satisfaction you can get out of squeezing useful functionality out of a pile of, well, junk, which would otherwise end up in a skip. Obviously it doesn't make sense if you have to spend the ...

Apologies if I mis-stated myself -- I definitely don't plan on using RAID 0 striping. The more I think on it, I'll probably use RAID 1 for a good while; I want the RAID 5 capability in case I try the HTPC/PVR route in the future. But definitely mirroring; if I have one more disk failure, I'll probab...

My next question involves memory. Will the 128MB that came in this rig be enough to run a FreeNAS RAID box? Hmm good review, though I got to say that the SI-128 is working well for me passively in my Antec Fusion. I am using the S-Flex 1200 RPM models and I think that I could easily go down to the 800 RPM models. Of course my processor is an older model, and Athlon 64 3700 s939. Out of curiosity, what te...

With some mods, a cooler CPU, and a horizontal MB......might be ok. For a really quiet setup, the fan is in a poor location. The intake is too close to the MB, and the tight fins look to be too restrictive. The supplied fan is the give-away......needs to run 3500rpms to cool a hot processor(probabl...

Spire Fourier IV -- NSK2400/Fusion solution?

While poking around Dailytech's reviews pages, I found a couple reviews of a Spire cooler, called the Fourier IV. The stock 92mm LED fan looks cheese-tastic, but it's interesting that Spire came up with a raised horizontal tower HSF that mounts the fan below the fins; it's only 99mm tall, apparently...
