Re: Gigabyte H55N-USB3: The De Facto LGA1156 Mini-ITX Board?

So do I understand correctly: The sys fan cannot be controlled by Speed Fan? Actually I tried it and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. This is a pity, because on idle, my system runs semi passive (CPU fan off say 80% of the time, sys fan at lowest Fan Mate levels), but when working, CPU fan goes to m...

Re: Gigabyte H55N-USB3: The De Facto LGA1156 Mini-ITX Board?

For me, the only problem with the Zotac board is... that it's a Zotac board. .... I agree on this, I order the Zotac board first which was already broken when I got it. Black screen, no boot, just dead. Got the Gigabyte instead, and I'm happy that I traded 2 SATA ports for a product that just works...

Re: Silent Home Server Build Guide

Nice article. I like the concept of going from selecting components to acutally building and commissioniong the system. Over the weekend I have built a WHS myself, a very similar system. It's in a Lian Li PC-Q08 as well, HDDs are 2x Samsung F4 1TB, 1x Samsung F2 500 GB and an older Samsung 400 GB 72...

uATX in Lian Li PC-Q08

Hi there,

I think I read somewhere that a guy modded the Lian Li PC-Q08 to hold a uATX board. But I cannot find this anymore so either I don't remember correctly or I don't know how to operate Google properly.

Any hints?

Cheers,

Hello shftup, I'm currently thinking about a very similar upgrade to my AMD 690 box, currently sitting in a Silverstone TJ-08. The only reasonable cases I found for this are the ones from Chenbro. They come with a decent power supply and seem to be build for WHS-like systems. This one is the latest:...

Can you take a photo of the optical drive mounted together with the Shuriken?

So far so good except foe the snag I'm in with the brace/drive cage that goes from front to back on the case. The cage hits the Shuriken 3 I'm using.on it. I'm currently deciding whether to cut the case or the sink. I'm sorry, forgot to mention this *minor* detail. I also cut the drive cage....

ISK 300, Zotac 9300, Celeron 3200, Big Shuriken

Hello, here's a confirmation for anyone planning a similar built: I have a Zotac 9300 and a Celeron 3200 together with a Big Shuriken in an ISK 300. It all fits fine. I removed the case fan completely. A Fan Mate throttles the Shuriken to close to miniumum speed. It's actually mounted at the slot wh...

Oops, sorry for not replying to your earlier question, missed that one...

I got mine a week ago and it is fantastic! Most quiet TFX PSU I've owned, and extremely good effieciency. The power draw under load dropped form 65 Watt to 55 Watt (approx, just to give an indication).

I received the FSP TFX now. Seems pretty ok. I made some initial power measurements. Idle power consumption is lower that with the original Silverstone PSU in my LC-11m. When in operation, slightly higher power is drawn. The fan is a bit lood, however the PSU stays extremely cool, so there's a good ...

I'd prefer this one too. I tried to get it through a number of shops but didn't succeed. I then contacted the distributer and they said that the minumum quantity for these is 1000. Also contacted Seasonic directly but of course no response. Since there is practically no information on TFX supplies o...

Yes. you're right, the link is wrong. Strange, I copy the address line, but then when you click the link it leads you to another page. Google for FSP TFX, then you'll find it.

In Germany it seems they sell the PSU you mentioned and this one http://www.fsp-group.com.tw/english/1_p ... &proid=390 , which I have just ordered. More expensive, but it has APFC. Give me a week and I'll post my first impression.

FSP Group 220-60pla

Does anyone have experience with this PSU? I'd like to know its noise characteristics.

Thinking about putting it into my Silverstone LC-11.

Hi,

thanks for your replies.

Same system different PSU I've tried, that works. Same PSU different system will be evaluated over the weekend.

I've unplugged the DVD for testing. Didn't try yet to unplug video card or remove all but one RAM bank, will do that later.

Cheers

Did some more testing.... When turning on the PC, all voltages are up. But apparantly the mobo tells the HD and DVD not to start. If I remove the IDE cables, they start to spin.

I'm lost, any ideas?

Thanks

I've rechecked all voltages and noticed that PWR_OK ist ~0,2 V, although 12V, 7V and 5V are present. Thinking about extrnally pulling this one to 5V... but this would for sure void the warranty, and I'm thinking about sending this one back...

Strange boot issue

Hi Just got myself a fanless mCubed EF16. I've got a system running an undervolted Sempron 3000+ on a Asus KV8-MX plus one TV card, DVD drive and 3.5" HDD. All put into a Silverstone LC-11. With the Silverstone PSU I measured a mighty 80W max at boot, so I guess I should be fine with the EF16 (165W)...

Thanks for your info, I've contacted Silvertek Europe to check out what my options are for replacing the PSU. I think 240Watt should be enough for my system. I've found a picture of the LC04 power supply and from the look I don't think this will fit into the LC11 (which has a slim design). I have a...

The main reason to mention this is that I have one motherboard, a PC Chips M599LMR for socket 7 CPUs, that was unstable with the picoPSU-120 (the system kept rebooting for no apparent reason), but which works perfectly with the 200W version. Considering that the PC only draws 50W (with a 550Mhz AMD...

Have you actually measured that at the wall? Most ATX PSU's draw considerably more than 10W even with no load connected; see this thread on desktop power consumption for the numbers. In that context 8W is actually a substantial reduction on normal PSU no load consumption. Thanks, good link, makes m...

The reason for my earlier post was that I have doubts that a brick AC/DC alone really eats 8 Watts when no load is connected, so I was seeking your opinion/measurement results on this.

Power consumption when PC off

Hi there Has someone measured the power consumption of those bricks? I'm reading in some electronics forums that these drain as much as 8 Watts even when nothing is connected. I use my PC for TV recording and it hibernates when it is idle - at present I have around 2 Watts going into the PC then. I ...
