Re: Lian Li PC-Q18: The Perfect Mini Server Case?

I like the construction of the case and the review of it. I just have a question because of the location of the power supply unit. Will it obstruct the use of peripheral cards since most mini ITX boards out do not support 6 or more hard drives? It appears it would obstruct the installation of sata c...

Re: Planning freeNAS build from old components

So, I will be getting an AM2 microATX mobo with support for DDR2. I read somewhere on this site that a 20-pin power supply would work fine since I will almost never need the integrated video aside from setting up the computer. Is that correct? Or would it better in the long run to get a new PSU? Asi...

Re: Planning freeNAS build from old components

I have these RAM sticks left over from previous builds and I don't want to throw it away. The reason I'm looking for a RAID card is for the server to have some data redundancy. I have about 4-5 GB (and growing) worth music and videos. The server is also for easy access to data without having to look...

Planning freeNAS build from old components

Hi, I rarely post here as I can usually find the information that I need on components throughout the site. I am stuck in a bit of a dilemma as to how to go about building a file server based on freeNAS at home. This will be my first freeNAS build btw. The components I currently have are 1) An old A...

Being Asian as well as living in NYC where Chinatown is a train ride away, I have grown up with tea being served every now and then. These are tea leaves that are scooped from a container and placed in a teapot to brew. It results in tea leaves sometimes being in your cup. Some of us don't like havi...

I replaced the NB cooler with the Zalman NBF47 and it was one frustrating experience. It barely fits in there with the capacitors near the chip almost touching the heatsink. After some adjusting and accidentally scratching the bottom on the heatsink, I managed to squeeze it in there at an angle with...

I also got this board along with an AMD Brisbane 4000+ and a 2GB dual channel kit G. Skill DDR2 800 memory. It's a great motherboard, but right now there are some quirks with it. First off, the memory speed is read as 349 in CPU-Z even when it's set at DDR 800 in bios. Another would be in Memtest86+...

The new Speedfan also detected the temperature sensor in my laptop which has a nVidia 6150 graphics chip. This allows me to now have only one program to keep close watch on the temps.

If I remember correctly, you can also use a motherboard with integrated graphics (preferrably ones from ati and nvidia) that allow support of extending the amount of monitors through use of dedicated graphics card from their respective companies.

I don't think you can get in trouble with the law. That being said, building computers for other people can really, truly bite. In general I find that I become permanent tech-support for the remainder of the PC's life. It's this reason that I never went into building PC's for friends even without m...

I'm also interested in the Abit motherboard as it provides more fine tuning than the MSI board of the same chipset. I've read of some people complaining of the 6150 chip being hot. Maybe the Abit heatpipe solution will solve that. This is one board where I will be buying the initial batch that will ...

The closest case based on what you wanted that comes to mind is the Antec NSK 1300. It comes with only one external 5.25 bay and room for up to 3 internal hard drives.

From personal experience, I would double check the switch on the back of the power supply as it is easily overlooked.
Also, try setting the "Clear CMOS" jumper or pressing its respective button. I've had that happen and it worked on an old computer I first put together.

You asked for a Micro-ATX case and a m-ATX case is what was recommended to you. It would help immensely if you would list what motherboard you were planning to put into a m-ATX case.

While the Asprie X-QPack may have its limitations, I did have plans on purchasing this case for when I do have the necessary funds to add components into it as well. I find that the MSI K8NGM2-FID is an excellent budget board for those wanting to build a budget computer as well as an HTPC. It comes with both DVI and VGA outputs as well as a bracket for component and S-video. I haven't purchased the board yet, but I've been keeping an eye on it till I have the ne...
