Small update on my replaced Antec SmartPower2 PSU. It's been about 7 months since the RMA, and it's making a high pitch electrical noise with the computer off again

I'm not going to waste time and money to RMA it again ... probably just get a SeaSonic.

I don't think 46oC is a problem either. One of my harddrives (WD) runs around 50oC for over 5 years and another (Hitachi) running for over a year without problems.

Most hard drives are design to run up to 55oC.

Are you sure you're looking at the right model? I think the information that I posted is correct about AMD X2 3800.

If I were to answer your question, my answer would be: no, it's not safe to run the CPU at 70C.

I think you should go to AMD's web site to check the info. In there it says the Athlon X2 3800 Tcase Max is 49°C to 71°C and the max for CPU is 70°C.

I have the same CPU. It works up to 70oC, when the CPU is at 100% load, anything below that is acceptable.

You can monitor the temperature with a program call SpeedFan if you mother board supports it.

For my PSU, I found a temporary work-around for the ticking sound problem. When the PSU starts to make the noise (looks like it takes a few hours), I completely shut down the computer. When I turn the computer on again, it doesn't make the noise.
