Silencing a House's Resonating Air Conditioner
This is a weird one. We recently had the central air conditioner in our house replaced. Unfortunately, since then, we've been hearing a pulsing resonance at about 85 cycles/minute at various points in the house (several of the loudest spots are in our master bedroom). At first, I thought the noise w...

I don't have the P183, so I can't answer your direct question. But, like andyb says, you don't really need those screws. If you don't want to let the thing sit loose, use a piece of that tacky stuff you can hang posters up with: http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Adhesive-Putty-Removable-860/dp/B000AN7EW4...

Re: Installation question for long-time Windows 7 users
Also be aware that the Pro version has XP compatibility more while the lesser versions are crippled and don't have it. WOW. Are you sure about that? Does that mean that my MS Word 2007 won't install on my Home version of Win 7? What he means by that is that Pro, Ultimate and Enterprise come with a ...

The Microsoft page for a clean install of Windows 7 over an existing XP setup is here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7 The meat of the thing is under the Step 3 tab on that page. Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
In my Solo, at that 40% idle fan speed, I can't hear the card at all (but the Solo might be quieter than more open cases). But, even at 45%, it becomes noticeable. If you modify the fan curve to what I mentioned earlier, it only leaves that 40% level during fairly intense games.

Re: Serenity i7 Sandy Bridge PC, SPCR Edition, by Puget Comp
Interesting. My son called me and said he needs a new computer. Since he doesn't consider building a computer to be a fun hobby, I pointed him to the reviews of the Puget system. I told him there'd be a premium over building his own very similar system and buying the pre-built system. He'd also want...

The DirectCU is about 10 degrees cooler than the Twin Frozr? Wow! My N560GTX-Ti baby brother to that 580 Twin Frozr runs very cool (though a bit noisy) and I assumed the 580 version would be tough to beat (temperature-wise). Assuming the new card continues to work properly, it sounds like the Direct...

Another thing to try with whatever new card you get is a clean install of the drivers. I'm unfamiliar with AMD cards, so maybe that's what you did when you talked about removing your personal settings folder. Here's a link to a post on what's recommended for nVidia cards: http://forums.nvidia.com/in...

With that case and power supply, I'm assuming you just got a bad card. I didn't see a reference to this above, but here's a link to Newegg's page for the Galaxy 58NLH5HS3PXZ GeForce GTX 580: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162073 It looks like it's using the Arctic Cooling A...

Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
I wonder how the ASUS ENGTX560 TI DCII/2DI/1GD5 would sound? On Newegg, it's in the same "lowest-priced" group as most other GTX 560 Ti cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121424&cm_re=560_gtx_ti-_-14-121-424-_-Product And, it should fit into the Solo case -- it's suppose...

Did anyone actually write down what the default fan curve was? I know it started to ramp the fans up early and quickly. But, I wanted to compare the original to what I changed it to and realized that I didn't record it.

Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
When I decided to buy this thing, I went to a couple of those power supply calculator sites. Basically, for my system, the only significant power consumers are 1) the video card, 2) the CPU, and 3) the motherboard. I really don't even need the calculators. My E8400 is rated at 65 watts and my GA-EP4...

Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
Something to worry about with this level of card and aftermarket heatsinks might be the amount of heat dumped into the case. My Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3P motherboard has two temperature sensors on it: TMPIN0 and TMPIN1. I have no idea what they measure, but TMPIN1 is normally near ambient and TMPIN0 is...

Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
I did play an RPG for a bit (Numen) and the temperature stabilized at 56 degrees. With my modified fan curve, the fans never left their 40% idle level. So, I think the only place to worry about noise is from the very graphically demanding games. I should point out what was pointed out to me in my Am...

Re: MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 560 comments
I mentioned this in my thread on the Frozr fitting into my Antec: since the nVidia page for the GTX 560 Ti lists 99 degrees C as the maximum temperature, I used MSI Afterburner to change the fan curve to: 60 degrees: 40% 80 degrees: 45% 90 degrees: 60% 100 degrees: 100% STALKER sent the temperature ...

After looking at the web page for the Arctic Cooler Accelero Twin Turbo Pro: http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/22/accelero-twin-turbo-pro.html?c=2182 I was all set to opine that it probably wouldn't fit the 560 since I thought that was supposed to have the same mounting holes as the 460. Re: MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
The problem with these things is normal people don't usually have multiple, latest-version graphics cards lying around: I sure wish I could compare this Twin Frozr version to the actual reference heatsink in my own case with my own ears. Oh well. The bright side is that I chose this card primarily b...

MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr Fits in Antec Solo
I just received my MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr video card. Since there's very little about it on this forum, I wanted to let people know that it does fit into an Antec Solo case. The card, itself, is 8.75 inches long. Measuring the fan shroud (from the back of the slot plate to the tip of the shroud),...

Re: Replacement for Antec Solo?
Well, with the introduction of nVidia's GTX 560 Ti, it looks like I might have dodged the immediate bullet on this Solo replacement quest (I'm not the OP, though, so I don't know about him). The card is probably much better suited to my needs than the high end GTX 570. It's a step up from the GTX 46...

I don't want to steal the OP's thread, but here are some of the general thoughts I have on the topic. Generally speaking, of Antec's lines of enclosures, only the Performance One, Sonata Family, and a few of the Gaming cases are even in the reasonable "Solo Replacement" category: - In the Performanc...

On the Antec Enclosures page: http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?Series=MTU= There are (currently) 11 separate categories of cases. Ignoring their Enterprise, Rackmount, and Hard Drive enclosures, that means Antec is currently selling 55 different consumer level cases. I find it hard to bel...

speedkar9, Since he asked for "small," I'll guess that the p183 is too big (and they increased the size of the P183 V3 by another inch, too). I don't know anything about the Fractal R3. I'm in a similar boat to Stcrispinsday. I sort of lean towards the P183, but except for the video card, I have abs...

Re: Antec Solo upgrade soon?
nVidia is a bit more forthcoming with their reference design lengths than is AMD. From nVidia's site where they talk about their current lineup: - GTX 460: 8.25" - GTX 465: 9.5" - GTX 470: 9.5" - GTX 480: 10.5" - GTX 570: 10.5" - GTX 580: 10.5" I specifically asked in another thread, here, if the GT...
