i have a 400W liberty and it barely ramps up, even under load . if the fan stays slow most of the time, it wont need vast volumes of air. if you were to duct the top part of the ninja to force hot air out through the exhaust fan, then there would be very little room for the liberty's fan to 'breathe...

mentawl, based on my experience from a vf700cu on a 6800GT and a 7600GT, id say you'd be better off using something to support the heatsink itself [foam, etc etc], since its so close to chassis' floor. with your current method, there is still the possibility that the card could warp or bend in the a...

very helpful pics nici! [especially for me since we share the same mobo and HSF  ] ive done dozens of comparisons and tried to get a feel of how the thing would fit but i never expected it to get so close to the F64! :!: did you see an increase in CPU temps? btw: you can rotate the HR-05 the ot...

hello again Bobfantastic! i really think the temp sensor on your NB is faulty; you've changed 3 heatsinks and youve only seen a temp difference of 1C?! you gotta admit, that sounds really strange! :P if anything, the HR05SLI should perform much better than the nb47 [if not the stock cooler] wi...

understandable, Bluefront! the variables are endless  i currently have my intake fan very close to the lower right edge of the motherboard [lanparty ultra-d] and as a result, the CPU, NB and GPU can very easily make use of the incoming air [all 3 components had +/-4C drop in temps]. im currentl...

thanks for the input Bluefront! Felger Carbon, the total space i have between the mobo and sidepanel is 145mm. if i were to install the si128 [at 91.5mm] and attach a 120mm fan of width 25mm, i would only have a clearance of 28mm for the fan to work with. it would still be within the +50mm space you...

fan clearance issue; xp120/si128 & casings with 80mm fan
hello, i was wondering: installing these heatsinks on a casing with 80mm fans would bring the 120mm CPU fan awfully close to the sidepanel [<4mm] - leaving very little room for the fan to work with. im curious, will a low speed 120mm fan moving <30CFM of air be affected by the 'restriction' in any w...

unfortunately, no. both my cards came from 'indecent' manufacturers. when the 9700pro first appeared a few years back, youd be lucky to get one from the mass of retailers/distributors and their green products. powercolor was the only brand being distributed - miserable 1 year warranty. 6800GT and Ul...

Most likely there are two possible reasons, either you didn't install cooler properly, or the death was natural. I find that apart from hard drives, motherboards and high-end video cards are the most prone to failure components. They just die, and that's it. i think if anything, it is the latter th...

thanks alot for your very valuable "two cents" StealthGirl  i guess i dont really have anything to worry about then! im still left with the puzzling question of what killed my 6800GT :( if i were to reduce the bends [ie. by installing the stock cooler] it will boot just fine [without the abilit...

Greetings, I'm not saying that it could never be a problem, but I doubt that it could be enough of an issue to kill a card -- or to prevent it from loading a 3D app! Lots of stock coolers are heavy enough to deflect the card, and lots of folks here at SPCR have used fairly heavy aftermarket coolers...

heavy VGA coolers and long term effects of gcard bending
hello everyone, im concerned about the bending of my graphics card [7600GT] it has been bending ever since i fitted my vf700 on it and i think it think it is continuing to bend. my previous card [6800GT] died due to -i suspect- bending. the system would not load and so on, so i reinstalled the stock...

errrm, i dont really know if this is the right place for a question like this and if im wrong, dont kill meh! anyway, i was wondering, is it okay if i were to plug the vf700's fan to my gcard? the manual says i should plug it to the main power but the cable isnt very long and it makes my inter...

badkarma, if you look closer, the F64's fan doesnt blow air through the heatsink - alot of it hits the heatsink and goes to the side immediately. only a small amount of air makes it to the other side of the heatsink! you can try using the BIOS to set CPU fan speed to 100% when the CPU Temp is >40C a...

jaganath, my room temp is 35C and i have an evercool vc-rf over it [@1300rpm]. the reported temps are 45C, so yeah, 70C is what i would consider to be very high. of course, given all mobos report their temps differently and id be much better off comparing temps with other lanparty nf4 users, i cant ...

Bobfantastic, im quite interested with the zalman NBF47 you have there. it seems that both our motherboards [mine is a lanparty nf4 ultra-d] have the chipset placed in an akward position whereby it is quite impossible to install a large passive heatsink without mods. i was never impressed with a mut...
