Quiet gaming rig

Here's my initial thoughts on a quiet gaming rig... I don't typically overclock my components or mess around too much once the thing is built. Case: Silverstone TJ08-E Power: SeaSonic SS-460FL2 Fanless Mobo: ASUS H87M-Pro CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell 3.4GHz Cooler: XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 RAM: G.SKI...

Re: SilverStone SG07 vs CoolerMaster Elite 130

Neither one is really suitable for a passive PSU, because a passive PSu relies on the heat rising up. Have you considered the Fractal Design Node 304. It works with a tall and slim CPU cooler and a passive PSU. Only downside is it doesn't fit an optical drive. I wouldn't be opposed to a really good...

SilverStone SG07 vs CoolerMaster Elite 130

How easy do folks think it would be to cool and quiet an Elite 130 vs. an SG07? Let's assume we have a fanless PSU (if it helps), an SSD, and a beefy CPU. For the Elite 130, I was thinking that with the GPU blowing out the side vents, and assuming a decent low-profile CPU heatsink/fan, you'd be able...

Re: PC for my parents

For those who are interested by these things, I've gone ahead and purchased the parts. Looking at the reviews of the ASRock motherboard on NewEgg, it seemed several people were complaining about the wireless card included in it. Also, there were a number of other consistent complaints regarding the ...

Re: PC for my parents

Ouch! Well I clearly discounted the G620 too quickly. I guess I saw it for $80 and figured it must be an older processor, and I wanted something that was the current generation. Now that I'm looking more closely I can see why you're being so harsh. Its a very good pick for this application. So lets ...

Re: PC for my parents

Lots of good advice, I really appreciate it. Case: The choices are an htpc style case to fit under the 7" shelf, or a small case to sit on top of the 11.5" deep shelf. I'm thinking the PC-Q11 is a good choice here. It can sit on the shelf where the current mid-tower is, only without any special supp...

PC for my parents

Hi. My parents have been using my old gaming rig for a few years now as their main computer. Its an AMD64 with Windows XP. Its working ok, but my dad would like to upgrade to Windows 7 and the latest MS Office. Given that their primary applications are internet browsing, email, Word, Excel and Citri...

Re: HD6850 Passive by PowerColor!!!!!!

Question:
I've got an Antec Solo, with one rear Scythe 120 fan in the back, and a Seasonic PSU pushing air out the back too. Is that enough cooling for this card, with its heatsink on the bottom side? Kind of seems like a lot of dead space to me.

The Samsung 203N optical drive performs similarly (I think not quite as good), but has LightScribe for labeling your disks.

Cooling me CPU

I have a potential build below. My only concern is cooling. I'd like to go with a passive Scythe Ninja. Would a single Noctua NF-S12-800 120MM rear care fan and a single Nexus 92mm intake fan be enough to cool everything? For example, do I need a fan on the Ninja or a second Nexus intake fan? Also, ...

I'd go with a Samsung SH-S203B. Its gotten good reviews.

If you want a DVD drive with LightScribe, then go with the Samsung SH-S203N. Again, good reviews.

Re: Memory Decide on what motherboard you want first. The motherboard info will tell you what type of memory it supports (DDR2 667/800/etc). You can also go to Corsair's website, fill in the info in the upper right for Motherboard/Brand/Model. It will recommend memory. If you aren't overclocking, ju...

In terms of external harddrive enclosures, I got a CoolerMaster XCraft RX-3SB. It works fine but seemed a little loud with the active cooling. Antect Solo Tricool on Low compared to Noctua S12 800?

Any thoughts on how a Noctua S12-800 would compare to the Tricool rear case fan on low that came with my Antec Solo case? The spec sheet I have for the Tricool says 25dB for 39 CFM. The review on this site for the Noctua says ~20dB for 41 CFM. If that's the case it would appear the Noctua is a clear...

As mentioned above, I would be interesting in seeing the updated numbers for the Nexus and Noctua 120mm fans to make the comparison easy. I'm personally on the lookout for the quietest fan that produces roughly equivalent airflow to my TriCool (on low). Its the fan that came with my Antec Solo. Acco...

I really like the idea of the Corsair psu reviewed on this site because of the modular power cables. Saves you from having to hide away unused power cables in your case.

I agree, change the HD. I went with a Samsung Spinpoint and have been happy.

P180's fine.

You're supposed to use 92mm fans for the front-intake in the Solo. Would it support 80mm fans?
