The H55M-ED55 looks nice. Are you using the LSI card with that board? I have to check compatibility with FreeBSD though since my plan is to use ZFS. I think I have the same card, it's just with Intel branding/BIOS (Intel SASUC8I). I've had no problems so far; with previous board I had to use F10 to...

Is it only the digital video output that will be affected if you put something other than a gfx card in the pcie-x16 slot? I’m building a server/nas so the VGA output would be more than enough if that’s the case. I was hoping to put an LSI SAS3081E-R card into the Intel DH55TC x16 slot. Kind of...

Appareantly the Intel HD Graphics is disabled by chipset/processor if anything "bigger" than 1x card is inserted on the 16x slot. So G45/43/41/etc will work better, because the core and VGA output still works. Bought MSI H55M ED55, and for my surprise the 16x slot and HD Graphics both work simultan...

Every Intel G31/G35/G41/G43/G45/Q45 board will turn off digital video outputs (HDMI, DVI) if there's card present on the PCIe 16x. Some manufactorers actually tell you this on their manuals (Intel, Gigabyte) but some just don't (thanks Asus :x )

Any chance to see noise levels with SSD? On some markets the laptop comes with bluetooth and in silver/black. There's also UL30 which is same but with 13,3" screen and no optical drive (when was the last time you used one?)

These are quite cheap; I might replace my 10 disk WD Green RAID array with 6 of these. The idle/seek consumption would be about same according my calculations. It only consumes about 1 W more on idle (according to spcr and Hitachi) than the 2 TB WD Green and the price difference is whopping $40.

I've got 90 W with D945GCLF1 with two 3,5" drives and haven't had single issue so far. You should be fine with the 90 W as your system should consume even less than mine.

I have 10 of these drives under linux. Some of them have 70 to 80 and some between 60k to 70k. Almost all of them have been in use for over 1 year. However, what does Raw Read Error mean? It's considerably higher on one of the disks: 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x002f 197 197 051 Pre-fail Always - 19411

Had you run HUTIL when you got the drive in October? I'm the second owner of the drive and I got it after christmas. I think I did run HUTIL when I got it and it had no errors. This isn't problem with the HUTIL/FETOOL as the operating system would break too. I could boot fine but when I touched som...

Kepakko, how do you think the drive will do in your average usb enclosure? I mean, there isn't much material to start resonating to begin with since these enclosures are not very big... what would you think? I wouldn't recommend unless you put it on pillow :P I tested the drive in my KC-31 (I think...

My 750GB (HD753LJ from 10/2007) drive broke on friday :( I got Input/output errors from everything such as basic commands as cp and ls on linux. I ran HUTIL and got tons of Sector errors and the program recommended that I should return this drive. The drive is pretty quiet when suspended properly ot...

It's DFI Transpiper. I haven't bothered installing mine as it doesn't do much.

I have two Hitachi 5K100s in RAID0 in my linux-box (planning to do Gallery-thingie soon) and they perform quite well. Quick hdparm -tT: /dev/md3: Timing cached reads: 1178 MB in 2.00 seconds = 588.27 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 152 MB in 3.00 seconds = 50.65 MB/sec Of course they are quiet. N...

You'll also get extra 50 GB's for 10 euros, not bad :p

And why not other stores? You'd get your drives cheaper (Seagate is 70 euros in other stores) and you'd have proper warranty service :p

I'd go with Samsung T133 -series which you can get any store in Finland excluding VK. I know, I have one :p

It is quieter than SP80 based on my own samples (3 SP80's, two 1614C (different firmwares) and one 1654N and one 400GB T133)
